One of the first things that comes to mind when gang violence occurs is guns. What my background is representing is the gun/gang violence that appears in our cities. Gangs are made up primarily around a person or a group of people who come together and commit crimes. Gangs appear to ethos because one of its biggest factors ties together with ethics. Gang activity revolves around ethics because all the the acts and crimes committed are based off of the person's behavior.

The first video shows how a gang brutally attacks a 14 year-old boy on the NYC highway and in the second video, a little boy speaks about how he wants the violence to stop and wants to live safely after he was shot in the back. Both of these videos appeal to ethos and pathos because they show ethics, credibility, and emotion.

"The Outsiders" (1967) by S.E. Hinton- This book takes place in a small town where gangs are scattered all around. A group of boys starring the main character Ponyboy, gets in a confrontation with their enemies the socs( another gang in their town) and turns into a vicious fight that gets taken too far and a socs life gets taken away. Gang activity like that happens in today's real world.

"Gangs and the Abuse of Power (Tookie Speaks Against the Gang Violence) (2003) by Stanley Tookie Williams- This book is told and written by the main character Stanley Tookie Williams. Back in his prime days, he was the leader of the gang named "crips" which originated in Los Angeles. By 1979, he was convicted of four murders and took parts in robberies which lead him to be sentenced and executed. Before his death, he wrote this book and several others to give children an inside look on his life as a gang member, hoping to have impact on some children's lives and prevent them from going onto the wrong path like he did.

This picture shows two gang members coming face to face. This picture has a deeper meaning and from my perspective, I can came to the conclusion this picture is representing bloods and crips coming together and becoming one. Forming a heart and putting down the gang violence, creating a society where there is little to no gang violence.I think this picture was created to send out a message to the people in our society to end the gang violence and come together so we all as one can end it. I think this picture appeals to ethos because its showing ethics, having mature behavior.

What I've learned about Gang Violence

After doing a research paper and project on gang violence, I have been enlightened with a lot of new information about it. I've learned where and when it originated and the intentions of the people who were in them from the beginning. Gangs first popped up in the 1920's in Los Angeles, the first gang association was created called the "bloods" by a guy named Pirus. The gangs moved to other major cities such as Chicago and New York City. The bloods biggest rival was with a group named "Crips"founded by Stanley Williams (leader of the Crips) and Raymond Washington.
</sub>
Gangs were originally not as violate as they are now, before they were mostly for immigrants. Immigrants were in gangs with people of their own culture. Then other factors came into play, such as feeling on the "outside" socially, or family neglect, or financial issues which later turned more violent and serious. Many children would join and were becoming savage.Over the years over 2,000 cases of homicide were caused by youth gang members. In today's society, we cannot stop every single gang member stop committing crimes but we can make it harder for gang members to commit crimes but making it harder to access weapons to harm others or make it harder for gang members of committing crimes such as banks,schools, and neighborhoods. There are many charities and programs striving to make a difference and to create a safer world for our society.
