There was always a sense of dread when I went because the NICU we were at had a slogan that “A preemie cannot be trusted” because anything could happen at any given time."

"Oddly enough, I have been a NICU mom twice. The first time I was very supported. When we couldn't be there, the nurses called, and when I had been there all day, they were willing to tell my husband everything he had missed. When we went to the step-down nursery, they made an effort to make my baby as normal as possible. With my second child, it was not as supportive of an environment. I was treated better than the first hospital, but my second child was not. This hospital was larger than the other, and it wasn't considered as big of a deal compared to your stay. “
