I feel like this is more personable. You are also speaking with other people in the field, with the same interests and passions as you. You are typically on the same side of something, or if not, can have educated discussion/debates about topics.

TED talks can teach something brand new to people who have never heard of or considered that topic. I rarely walk away from a TED talk and feel as though my time was wasted. They can be inspirational and painful at the same time. It is a good format for educated people to share with a mass audience. I just hope that they share the correct information and don't try to mislead anyone.

People may overly trust the speaker without doing their own research. It's dangerous to put someone up on a pedestal. Maybe I am cynical, but I usually take everything with a grain of salt.

It's just words on a page, so sometimes it can feel lifeless or not at all personable. I think sometimes there needs to be a balance of passion and correct facts to really get people's attention.
