(Laila Isabella)
Source 1
I can infer from the source below that Singapore had a connection with Indonesia. The reason being is that the Javanese ornament was found in Singapore which can imply that the Javanese may have wanted to share their beliefs of Kali, a Hindu Goddess, to the people of Singapore, seeing as that there were carvings of the Goddess on the necklace. This shows that Singapore had a relation as the people from Java influenced the people in Singapore.

The image shows two golden ornaments; a pair of earrings and a necklace. The necklace has the Hindu Goddess, Kali, on it. This ornament is dated in the 14th Century.

(Textbook Source 1, Page 66)

(Denson)

(Source 12, Pg 36 of Textbook)

Sixteen coins dating from before 1819 were found at Fort Canning Hill, they were either found partial or whole. Some of the coins dated from the Tang Dynasty while most of the other coins were date to the Song Dynasty. From this source i can infer that before 1819, people traded with coins at Fort Canning Hill.

(Source 11, Pg 36 of textbook)

In 1926, a collection of gold ornaments which dated to the mid-14th century, were discovered at Fort Canning Hill. One of the gold ornamenta was an armlet, which has the design of Kala, the Hindu god representing time and destruction. From this I can infer that traders before 1819 traded at Fort Canning Hill for gold ornaments.

(Rhoda)

Source 3
I can infer from the source 3 below that Singapore before the 1819s had political connections with the Majapahit Kingdom because the background information from the pages of Nagarakertagama it contains accounts of the Majapahit Kingdom and its vassal state.
Source 4
Singapore then called temasak was mentioned as one of the vassal states, later on source 4 it was stated that Sang Utama was succeeded by his son Puduka Sri Pikrama Wira. In the late 1340s, the east Javanese kingdom of Majapahit claimed superiority over Singapura and attacked it because Paduka Sri Pikrama Wira showed indifference to Majapahit's wish to have great authorities over Singapura which in the end Paduka Sri Pikrama still ruled Singapura until he was succeeded by his son.
(Textbook source
Page
67-68 Rhoda)

Our group has concluded that life before 1819 in Singapore was tough. Though Singapore did thrive in trading by becoming a popular trading port for others, it was hard to get to Singapore waters due to all the piracy, such as the pirates that would wait until ships were on return journeys hence, carrying goods before ambushing the vessels and slaughtering the people on the ship afterwards. This also shows that all aspects - the Economical, Political and Cultural aspects are important as it has helped to build Singapore to where it is today. Singapore’s connection to other countries are important as it is key to have a good relationship with neighbouring countries or even countries from all around. Though with all the good connections between Singapore and countries all around, there were still other countries which tried to take over Singapore; meaning to say that being a citizen before the 1819s was hard with the danger all around and the political issues considering that Singapore then had Portuguese raiders burnt down the settlement at the mouth of the Singapore River and the island sank into a state of unknown hence, it was difficult to live without a day thinking about how Singapore could fall anytime.
