Conversations can be started within

PLNs and easily accessed by many individuals.

There are many teaching methods, projects,

programs, and cirriculum topics that create

controversy. Online conversations, or debates,

allow teachers, students, and parents, to share

their ideas, as well as explore new ones. PLN's

are a great way to learn some new perspectives.

If a parent, student, or new teacher has

a question, they can turn to a PLN for help!

As a new teacher, for example, I will have

many questions. I may be having difficulty

dealing with a students behaviour, creating

lesson plans, balancing teaching and my

family, and many many other problems.

No matter what I go through in the classroom,

I can be sure that somewhere in a PLN

someone will have gone through something

similar. As a new teacher I won't feel as

isolated or alone knowing that I have

online support!

Another benefit of building PLNs is that they give students a new way to use social networking sites.

As kids are becoming more tech savvy, it is more and more likely that they will be using sites such as

Facebook, Skype, and Twitter. As teachers, it is a part of our responsibility to understand these websites,

and encourage our students to use them in a safe and efficient manner. I want my future students to

see these sites as learning tools. Not only that, but I want my students to be safe online. The more I use

different resources on the internet, the more I can help my students use them.
