I started creating lots of different drawings of lily pads to potentially use as a front cover and experiment using different types of media. I liked how compact and close the lily pads are as it looks sort of natural in a way - something you would see outside. I decided to keep the colour scheme nice and simple - aiming for the aesthetic of nature.

With adding the pattern on the spine, it still feels a little off. It doesn't look like it belongs. I tried shifting different areas of the pattern to the left and right and it just didn't seem to work. I think I prefer it being just the background colour, it gives it a more aesthetic look to it.

I kept the original pattern and duplicated my sketch into a patter inspired by the artist who I researched trying to incorporate that smooth elemental pattern into my work. The original colour to the sketch gives it a nice raw appearance and makes it look like it was directly drawn onto the notebook which I like, the background colour compliments my pattern nice which is what I am initially aiming for (the background outlining my pattern).

I tried a different sketch and incorporated it into a pattern although it looks very erratic due to the random placement of the sketches. It wouldn't be suitable to use this a final as overall it looks messy and very unprofessional in my opinion. However with it being just the lineart and background colour, those elements work well it's just the placement of the sketch. I don't really want to work more on this sort of idea of using this sketch as it isn't a preferred option in comparison to the lily pads I have drew. So I am leaving it be as a failure mock up.

I started trying to go with a softer colour scheme to get achieve a wholesome aesthetic which I successfully achieved. I just think the subtlety of the colours make it look visually nice to look at it but then again, a warm light colour scheme makes it hard to look at, I am thinking maybe a colder colour would work a little better or perhaps greater than warm colours.
