The subject of pain is ignored in both the short story and the poem. Guilt is another theme in both texts because in the short story some people feel guilty for leaving the boy behind and in the poem the man hearing everything happen but how he didn't decide to do anything about it.

These two texts are connected because both have to deal with guilt and regret. Guilt is represented because in the poem the man hears everything happening and he admits that to the policeman when he questions him. The man says he’s heard so many gunshots before he didn’t think anything of it. Regret is shown in the short story because the people that left didn’t do anything. I bet in all honestly they did want to do something but just didn’t have the nerve to say anything to someone about it. They wanted to save there own life instead of there which would then be selfishness.

This song connects to the short story because when the people leave I bet they do feel sad about leaving the child behind and not being able to do anything. With the poem the man feels deeply sad about not doing anything for the kid even though he heard the whole thing happen.

This song connects to the short story because the people that left Omelas had to deal there whole life with that image of the boy and knowing he was going to be going through pain his whole life. In the poem the man has been through it all with the gunshots hearing them a thousand times and knowing a child died and that he heard it but didn't do anything about it.

In the short story the people that left Omelas will have a changed life due to the fact they won't always be happy anymore because they chose to not have happiness forever because they thought it was wrong what the child was going through. In the poem the man's life is changed because now I bet when he hears gunshots he will do something about it rather than doing nothing.
