Cells were first seen by a man named Robert Hooke in 1665 he looked at them under a microscope with a candle lit near it he would look at dead cells. He saw dead cells but not living cells the first person to see actual living cells was Antoine Van Leeuwenhook. He saw living cells he also would look at lice and fleas. Leeuwenhook was a dutch crafting man and he would craft lenses so he probably used something better to see living cells. I even learned that Schleiden and Schwann discovered the rules and what things do living cells need to be considered living they were very clever as well.

All living organisms have cells. We human beings have about 37 trillion cells. Back then, people had no clue about any of this information. That was until Robert Hooke came into view. He was a scientist and was the first person to create a microscope and notice what cells are. He called this microscope, “Micrographia.” Though, Robert Hooke didn’t see live cells, only dead cells. He made this discovery in the year, 1665, 358 years ago. The reason how “cells” got its name is because, Robert named it after the dead cells of cork because of how similar it looked like with what monks would live in. It was said that Robert Hooke’s drawings were good designs, but we actually don’t have any drawings or images of what he looked like back then. Although, there are a few theories that the scientist, Isaac Newton, burned the last picture of him. Later on in history, Dutch scientist named, Antonie Van-Lewerhook, was the first one to find out what live cells looked like. He found more and more about them, so as the years go by, more people learned more about cells. Then comes Schilden (I think that is how you spell his name.) and Shwan. They discovered that all life is composed of one or more cells and that cells are the basic unit of life. This was originally Shwan’s idea and theory, but Schilden plagiarized his work. So technically, Shwan discovered this first, and Shilden copied him. In short, what I have learned from this mini lecture is that; anything that is living, has either one or more cells. Anything that is not living, does not have cells at all. So that is the difference between living and non-living things.
