My theme is about how fear influences your choices, but you can find a way to overcome it. I'm using the book "To Kill a Mockingbird", its movie, an online article, and a photograph from the movie as my sources for my theme.

Novel: The source relates to my topic because their is a lot of my theme in the book. Like in the trial of Tom Robinson, people are scared of what is different from them and what they don't understand. Since Tom is a different color than the towns people of Maycomb, they fear him. It's also why they also look down on Atticus for defending Tom in his trial.
Movie: In the movie, as well as the book, the kids, Scout, Jem, and Dill, believe in the local legends circulating the Radley house and "Boo" Radley. Believing that Boo is a monster who killed some his family members and so his parents locked him away in the house. Thus making the kids scared of Boo Radley.
Speech: FDR's 1st Inaugural Address. In his speech he says the famous quote "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." He is trying to encourage the American citizens to not fear the threats they face. And how we don't have anything to fear, but fear.

Novel: Reading "To Kill a Mockingbird" helped me understand my topic better by explaining what and why people were afraid of. It would give the characters thoughts about it and their point of view. And it shows the characters actions in response to their fear. Like how during the trial Mayella is scared when she's on the stand. She's scared of what will happen if people find out she's lying. And of what her father will do if she doesn't.
Movie: The kids don't know the whole story behind "Boo" Radley. They only believe the legends because they are kids and don't fully understand what's true and what isn't. I understand my theme better through the movie because of the point of views given by the children. They're scared of something they don't fully understand. You should understand and find out what's true about something or someone before jumping to conclusions, and becoming fearful of the thing.
Speech: Reading FDR's speech helped me understand my theme because he talks about fear and how we shouldn't let it control how we feel and act. We shouldn't fear anything material because everything material can and will end. So the only actual thing we have to fear is fear itself

Novel: The creator, or author, of the novel got these ideas across to her readers by being descriptive. As well as being very good at writing with very good imagery. She helps the reader picture what's going on in the book in their head. Like during the entire trial. The author would describe what Scout would be feeling and the how it felt to be in the court room while Tom was up in the stand telling his testimony. The author makes it clear how tense or serious the court room was.
Movie: With this being a movie it's obvious how the creator of the film would want to get the theme across. But it is really up to the actors to make the emotions or thoughts of their characters believable. Which they did.
Speech: FDR got his ideas across in his speech to the American citizens by being passionate. And by being clear to his audience. By doing those things his audience believed him and were inspired by him to not give up and to not fear the threats America faced/faces

Question 1. This picture relates to my theme because it shows someone scared of something. This picture is from the movie The Empire Strike Back. It takes place when the main characters are hiding in what they think is a cave that has creatures in it. They become fearful of the creatures because they start attacking the main characters.
2. Seeing this picture helped me understand my theme better by showing how there are different ways to be scared. There's fearing something may happen. And being scared because something shocked them. In the main character's case, it was both.
3. The actors of the movie were told they needed to act scared for this particular scene. The actress in the picture has done a good job of showing the viewers that she has been scared by the monsters attacking them outside. She screams, makes a face, and jumps backwards to show she's scared.
