Types:
The Combined DNA Index System permits labs to trade and compare DNA profiles to connect serial violent crimes to each other and to known offenders.

The DNA Casework Unit supplies forensic DNA examinations to the FBI and various law enforcement agencies in assistance of criminal, missing persons, and intelligence cases through evidence testing.
 
The Federal DNA Database Unit examines the Core CODIS loci DNA markers from buccal and blood samples of federal convicted offenders and other criminals.
