Giant Lantern Festival 🎄

The Giant Lantern Festival is held every December in San Fernando City, Pampanga which is also known as the Christmas Capital of the Philippines. This festival features a competition of gigantic and bright lanterns made from colored plastics, steel frame, light bulbs and electric wires to light them up and parade them to each barangay in Pampanga before midnight mass of Christmas. Although I only see this on screen, this is the Philippine festival I like the most because it allows me to feel the holiday vibes and it reminds me of my Christmas childhood memories. 🎅

Basically, the festival is done by a dance ritual, in which it tells the story of the Filipino people’s pagan past and their acceptance of Christianity. This was the statue of the baby Jesus that was handed to the Rajah Humabon of Cebu by the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in 1521. The festival is thought to be the first of the most well-known festivals in the Philippines.

It is a celebration of the Santo nino but really gives a nod at the past religion of the Philippines before taking in the religion of Christianity.

The performers will usually dress in traditional regalia, but perhaps what stands out more is the intricate body tattoos on their bodies.

It is important for visitors to realize that the tattoos are not only a form of bodywork, they also depict the phases that the province has gone through over the years. This Pintados celebration encourages us to see the value and excellence of the customs of the nation's predecessors.

It is the first festival that I've been to together with my friends that's why I really enjoyed it. Higantes festival is celebrated every November 22 and 23 to express gratitude to its patron Saint Clemente the patron of mariners. The main event of this festival was the parade of the giants made out of paper mache.

I personally like the Hot Air Balloon Festival in Clark Pampanga, ever since I was a kid we usually go there every year and enjoy the festival. What’s so cool about this is that not only you’ll see giant hot air balloons but there are Aircrafts, Gliding, Kites, Sky diving, Big lights, and a lot more performing in the big field and the crowd is really amazing you’ll totally enjoy your stay there. The festival is an annual event happening between January and February at Clark Freeport Zone, just a few kilometers away from Alviera. More specifically, the festival will take place at Omni Aviation Complex. The festival features multi-colored hot air balloons flying in and around the Field. (This is one of my favorite shots that i took way back 2016 🤩)

Numerous Marikina City manufacturers exhibit their creativity and originality to the public, reflected by their crafted shoes and slippers. It is also known as the "Blooming Flowers Festival" and ever since when I was still a little girl up until now, flowers really captivates my heart and for me, it also symbolizes love and positivity. In addition, "Panagbenga" comes from a Kankanaey term meaning "season of blooming", and this festival contemplates the heritage, history, and principles of Baguio and the Cordilleras. It takes over a month long and thrives by community spirit participation.

With activities set from sunrise to sunset, people are parading on the streets with colorful paints on their faces and wearing indigenous costumes.
