They are indirectly making a plan on what group of people to exploit for slave labor, in this case those who were not given access to a high quality education, either because of underfunded schools or because of a learning disability. And shows that our prison system only punishes the "crimes" of middle class and below, not any white collar or exploitive crimes, like underpaying wages or stealing the data of everyone on facebook and selling.
this also gives them a vested intrest in keeping education underfunded.

It is an indication of the school to prison pipeline. The fact the some students are marked from the 3rd grade to be bound for prison is definitely expressed in how they are then treated in school and in society. Either that or the strong correlation between reading scores and future imprisonment is proof that we are failing children with predictive accuracy.

Well its saying there is a high correlation between education/literacy and incarceration. That is also supported by the reference article. This means two things: that 3rd grade reading levels are a predictor of adult education and literacy (which is not good) and that adult education and literacy are predictors of incarceration (also not good). I think it speaks to the way both society and schools are structured that our laws and "justice" system so heavily incarcerates the less literate

This statement is problematic for more reasons than I can honestly comprehend. One reason being that they see there is a wide systematic issue that's failing our students yet they aren't doing anything to derail it. Secondly they are taking a numerical score to predict future behaviors without taking into account the full picture behind the scores.

These prison planners are using data from two systems that were designed to fail certain groups of people so of course it is possible the data could seemingly line up.

To me, this statement emphasizes that certain populations of students (particularly Black and brown students from low socioeconomic backgrounds) are assumed to inevitably go to jail. Rather than attempt to fix the underlying problem, prisons just make room for more people.
