Towards the end of his journey, Bilbo learns to be more open-minded. At first when Bilbo joins the Dwarfs, he is stuck in his Hobbit ways. The Dwarfs have different ways of life and doing things. He tries to stick with his ways & rejects any other. By the end, Bilbo learns to embrace the Dwarfs and any other race (Elves, Men etc). He doesn't believe whatever he is told and tries to find out those things himself. I, on the other hand, am not as skeptical as I probably should be. I am very naive and gullible. He does whatever it takes to get to the mountain, albeit the journey is long and dangerous. At one point, the Dwarfs question his loyalty when he is separated from them, they believe he has given up and went home. He had been pondering if he should. The Dwarfs go on to talk about Bilbo and how they knew he would not finish the journey all while Bilbo can hear them from a distance. After all of that, on top of the dangerous journey he had been in, he continued to stay loyal to the Dwarfs and finish their mission. He could have given up easily there, but he persisted on. At the time the Dwarfs thought he left, he was separated from them. He had his things packed and he was ready to leave. I may have left, if I was in his shoes. He was on a long dangerous journey and this was his first time away from home. Even through that, he kept on going. He keeps going when things get tough. I myself, need to learn to be more persistent. Sometimes the easy way out and avoidance becomes too appealing and I make excuses for to do so. I really like his character and believe he is a very relate able person in the movies. He is a good role model as far as he never gives up until he achieves what he set out to do. I believe we had a few similarities but we differ as well. In the trilogy, he shows a great deal of the character traits that a critical thinker possesses; skepticism, fair mindedness, humility, persistence and he has the ability to solve problems.
