She kept fighting for her wish and although she failed, she and Augustus kept trying out of Amsterdam, sending E-mails and eventually achieved their goal, with Augustus trying, because it was his dying wish. Another side evidence of trying hard is Augustus's will to keep up his humor right until his last breath. Everybody told him to rest and do nothing for his last final week, but he kept his spirit and never gave up on his grasp for happiness and humor. Margo went missing, and Quentin began his quest of finding her, because there have been hints of depression in Margo's personality, and the clues she left about her location suggested her suicide. He went to great lengths to find her,  even going as far as lying directly to his parents, and even ignoring a government detective. In page 155, Quentin even muttered the words, "I will play out the string. I will not betray your trust. I will find you." Another instance of this theme showing up in the book is the overprotection of Margo's parents. Although they eventually gave up when Margo became an adult, they kept trying for years to contain Margo from running away and doing dangerous and illegal stuff. They tried and tried, trying desperately to decode clues, and find Margo when she ran away.
