Hello Year 7,
I hope you are all well and have been enjoying the sunshine that we are having and getting to spend more time with your families. I hope you have enjoyed doing your artist project and are ready to start the week with some more creativity!

20.04.20
Still life and Composition
This week I would like you to put together your own still life composition and draw it using your knowledge of line, tone, cross hatching and composition. You will need to have a little treasure hunt first to find some items for your still life. Gather together a piece of plain fabric (tea towel, jumper, scarf etc), a bottle (glass or plastic) and some fruit. Arrange these in an interesting composition, perhaps crumpling up the fabric first and then playing around with the arrangement of objects till you are happy it, placing some of the objects in front/behind each other (these will appear to overlap when you draw them). Once you have your arrangement you are ready to get to work!

Try and work on A3 paper if you have it, alternatively you can put 2 pieces of A4 together. Make sure you have your paper in the correct orientation to suit your still life, landscape or portrait, depending on your composition.

First, do an outline drawing of what you see. Draw lightly and try to avoid using a rubber as it slows you down! Any mistakes will be covered up when you start to add your tone. Check the proportions of one object in relation to another and when you have finished your outline you can start adding tone and crosshatch like you have practised in class. The various objects have different challenges with their various textures, smooth, rough, see through etc so use tone in different ways to show these. Remember to aim to fill the page and aim for accuracy and detail in your work.

Click on the link below to see some still life examples by the Artist Paul Cezanne to help you with your compositions.

Enjoy!

(The words in bold are the keywords for this piece of work, look up any you have forgotten or don't know.)

Good morning year 8. Below I have detailed the art work for this week. Please contact me if you have any questions about the work and email me your finished work too so that I can give you feedback. Have a good week.

27.04.20
Design your own food packaging
Following on from your work last week of a still life using food packaging, this week you are to design your own packaging for either a new bar of chocolate or packet of sweets. Think about what you discovered, drawing from existing packaging, and what makes it interesting and appealing to customers.

For your work you need to think carefully about the following aspects of your design,
SHAPE, LOGO, LETTERING, COLOUR AND BACKGROUND

SHAPE
It is important to create the effect of your packaging being 3 Dimensional (3D). Think back to your art work in year 7 (and in Maths) on shape, when you drew cubes, cuboids, cylinders, pyramids and spheres. Choose a shape for your packaging and draw this out, filling as much of the page as possible.

LOGO AND LETTERING
Next think about the logo/name of your product. The name will feature prominently on the packaging and there will be other, smaller lettering too, perhaps the main ingredients, cost of the item or slogan. Plan your lettering carefully to fit on the product and be consistent with the size and shape of the letters.

COLOUR
You will want to make your packaging eye catching so choose bold colours and colour in carefully and neatly. You can use whatever materials you like but something with a fine point will work best, colour pencils, felt pens or painting with a fine brush.

BACKGROUND
Once your design is complete you will need to decide the best background for your product. You could make it look as if it is part of an advert in a magazine or on a billboard. You could choose to make it look as if is one of many packages stacked on a shelf in the supermarket in the style of Andy Warhol whom you have studied. You may not have much background to fill so you might decide to complete the background in a colour complementary to the colours of your product.

This work gives you the chance to be creative, individual and expressive. Have fun dreaming up your new chocolate bar or packet of sweets. I look forward to seeing your creations!

Good morning year 7. I hope you are all safe and well and that you enjoyed last week's work. Below is the art work for this week. Please contact me if you have any questions about the work and email me your finished work too so that I can give you feedback. Have a good week everyone.

27.04.20
The Colour Wheel and Colour Theory
This week you are going to learn about colour and all its special properties and begin to explore it using different materials.

This is the colour wheel. On it are the primary colours, red, yellow and blue. These colours cannot be mixed from any other colours. In between the primary colours are the secondary colours, green, purple and orange and they are mixed from the primary colours either side of them. The colours are arranged in a particular order on the colour wheel. The colours which lie opposite each other on the colour wheel are the complementary colours and create the strongest contrast for those two colours. These pairs of colours are, red and green, blue and orange and yellow and purple.

Your task is to draw out the colour wheel and label it with the primary and secondary colours. Colour it in, preferably with paint so that you can mix the colours yourself. Do this on A3 paper or 2 pieces of A4 stuck together. Underneath your colour wheel explain in sentences the primary colours, secondary colours and the complementary colours.

Have fun colour mixing!!
