It is the most commonly used substance among the population 16 to 59 years. Rates were higher for all drugs among males, especially young males 18 to 29 years. In a 2011 survey of 2,639 students 70% reported that they used alcohol, 30% reported drinking in the past month . These results showed that as of 2002, alcohol use amongst high school students is increasing. The age range of alcohol use was 5 to 51 years. In 2018, most drinking respondents approximately 81 % reported having their first drink more than a year ago, while 12.4% of persons had their first drink during the past 30 day and 6.7% had their first drink more than a month ago but within the past year. In 2018, the mean age of respondents’ first marijuana smoke is 17.2 years (range 5 to 43 years). In that very same year, One out of ten (10.4%) lifetime marijuana smokers first smoked in the past year, representing less than 1% of the total population. By sex, the mean age was 16.5 years for males, and 19.0 years for females. The average age of a current marijuana smoker is 31.5 years Males as young as 12 have reported to have smoked marijuana Males under 45 years had the highest proportions of current marijuana smokers. All users first used crack within two years.
