I started a project to create my own Christmas Tree business last year. I had to research, plan, implement and later evaluate the success of this short-term project. I started with a budget of £1,250 and doubled my money. Along the way I was faced with issues with my supplier and customer demands. But in the end it all worked out and I would say it was an overall success. I learned a lot along the way. From a project management point of view, the risks could have been planned for better, but this is the experience I have learned.

A project that I have worked on is the creation of menu's for restaurants. In order to complete this sort of project, a lot of time is needed to be invested into the research of dishes and cuisines, in order to establish whether or not particular dishes would be suitable for our clientele. In regards to budgeting for this project, it is more complex than having a budget for the whole project that you need to stick to, each individual dish has its own budget and needs to meet a certain level of GP. Over the curse of a year we change the menu roughly every 2 months, so our time frame for each project is the 2 months that the previous menu runs for. One of the major constraints is ensuring that you have the equipment required to make the dishes you want to place on the menu. This can be extremely difficult to work around as there are so many utensils that are needed to create a dish and these can be expensive if they need to be purchased for a specific dish. The time scale for the project is crucial to follow as if the creation of a new menu overruns its cale, this can lead to customers no longer wanting to dine in our restaurant as they get sick of eating the same dishes over too long a period. When creating menus, there tends to be a project team of 8 people, the managers, the chefs and the service staff as this allows for optimal levels of inputs and ideas which can help lead to more positive results

The project was to fund raise money from students to support sick children in one of the local hospitals. I have allocated the tasks of each member in the team and divided them in two groups for two different locations in the university campus. We were to sell krispy kerem and try to make money as much as we can to give to the York hall hospital. I am as project manager have to give a role to five students of my team. We started with £1000 to buy all products which were about 700 boxes of krispy kerem. We managed to sell almost all and the profit was about £3500 after long raining day. It was a big job and need to make sure everyone do his task. The project was very successful and people were very happy for good cause.

As part of community activities taking place around the commonwealth games, our project was to create an original song themed around the games. The project was to be a collaboration between a group of African artists and young people in Glasgow. We had approximately 2 months to complete the project which would then be publicised locally across Glasgow and performed at local events. We had a team in place to deliver the project however we had to recruit further for specialist skills to contribute. Our budget was extremely low and instead we utilised our network to ensure we had all the resources we needed to complete the project. Some of the activities to be carried out included writing, compose, recording then performing a song. With up to 10 people working on one song it became challenging to get everyone together .

My project was on Operation Palatine in Bosnia for the British Army. I was in command and responsible for over 150 troops, who were responsible for peacekeeping operations in the Balkans. My budget was over £2 million and this was to be used for funding multiple projects such as building schools, hospitals and creating infrastructure after ethnic cleansing and war. I overseen the allocation of time, manpower, budget and resources during the 6 month tour. This project is ongoing and constantly under review.
Success: The return of infrastructure and winning hearts and minds, while coming under constant budget changes and pressure from whitehall.
Failure: change
management - Project managers change every 6 months.

My project was to purchase salvage vehicles from auctions in the USA, rebuild and restore them and sell it back put in back onto the market in Ghana. The tasks involved bringing together various artisans like a welder, bodywork mechanic, engine specialist, also I had to work with a freight forwarder. My budget was $50,000, this was used in acquiring the auction license, purchase salvage vehicles, towing, shipping, taxes and duties in destination country, vehicle parts, bodyworks, spraying, engine parts and other accessories. Repairs on each vehicle takes an average of seven weeks from time of purchase to the finished product. One of my main problems is financing as interest rates on bank loans were quite high and sometimes inaccessible but there is readily available market for the vehicles and it's usually bought in cash and paid and full. I achieved some successes because I sold the vehicles below the market price so sales was quite high but there were lots of constraints such as high cost of import duties and taxes, cost of shipping (from inland auction sites and exit ports), high interest rates on loans and also selling below the market price put a dent on profits
