Introduction

Cat is a domestic animal found in almost every country. And people love to have a cat at their home which makes everyone happy, especially the children at home. As they are widely domesticated just next to the dogs. As dogs are the most domesticated animals in the world and cats are second.

Anatomy

The cat is similar in anatomy to the other felid species: it has a strong flexible body, quick reflexes, sharp teeth and retractable claws adapted to killing small prey. Its night vision and sense of smell are well developed. Cat communication includes vocalizations like meowing, purring, trilling, hissing, growling and grunting as well as cat-specific body language. A predator that is most active at dawn and dusk, the cat is a solitary hunter but a social species. It can hear sounds too faint or too high in frequency for human ears, such as those made by mice and other small mammals. Female domestic cats can have kittens from spring to late autumn, with litter sizes often ranging from two to five kittens.

Behavior

Cats are generally shy. Cat is a carnivorous animal who loves to eat animal-based food like meat.

Cats love to eat flesh, meat, and fish more than anything else.Cats are lazy in nature and love to sleep a lot.

Cats are generally friendly but can bite their owners on getting angry.

And to show or express their love for humans cats make a purring sound.

Generally, cats don’t like to live in a group as they want to sleep and eat alone. And live around a food source. The lifespan of a cat is almost 10 to 12 years.

There are almost 71 standardized breeds of cats.

Research also says that petting a cat at home could reduce the chance of heart attacks as a cat at home relieves the stress.

Conclusion

Cats are one of the most beautiful creatures on the planet and the second most popular domesticated animal of humans as a pet. There are several varieties and breeds of cats all over the world.

They are good predators and helps humans to protect agricultural land and their houses. They love to eat rodents like mice, rats and other small animals that protect agricultural land.

They are very friendly and playful and consider her one of the best house pets.

What makes me tick: social media. (Jill Lo)

Social media is quite new in the world but already has a huge impact. Tiktok, Instagram and YouTube are examples of social media platforms. Almost everyone uses it daily. Social media can be used for a lot of things.

The coronavirus broke out in 2020. As a result of that, schools closed, and people had to work from home. Restaurants and theme parks also needed to close. And we had to go in lockdown. Because of lockdown people couldn’t socialize with each other in real life. But they could socialize with each other online, through Instagram or other social media platforms. People could chat with friends and family online. This way they could stay in contact without getting infected by the coronavirus.

On social media you can not only talk to friends and family, but you can also make content. For example, YouTube videos or Instagram photos. And some people even have social media as their job. They are influencers. But having social media as a job is not only making content. The influencers also need to edit their videos or photos. But some influencers are busy or don't know how to edit videos and photos, so they hire an editor. So social media doesn't only give content creators a job but also editors

I think it's good that we have social media. Because with social media we can easily communicate with each other. And through social media people can get jobs like content creator or editor. Social media is handy because nowadays almost everyone is on social media, so you can talk to almost everyone on the internet.

what makes me tick: taekwondo

     What makes me tick: taekwondo?

1. General:

My composition is about taekwondo. Not many people know the sport taekwondo, but taekwondo is an Olympic Korean martial art. The sport originated in South Korea on April 11, 1995. The name itself means the way and the manner of the foot and fist. Taekwondo also has levels. You can show through your band at what level you are. You have a total of 11 different colored belts with the 11th being the black belt.

2. Why it's good for discipline:

Taekwondo is a sport where it's not about killing someone. It is therefore about the techniques you have learned during your training. That is why we must always greet each other before we start a match. That way you show the other one you have respect.

3. Why it's good for self-defense:

Of course, Taekwondo is most about being able to defend yourself. For this, the sport has different parts, such as sparring. You will learn different kicking techniques and punching techniques that you use while you're sparring, but that you can also use when you are in a real situation.

4. What does taekwondo do for me:

My parents put me on taekwondo because I used to be a pretty insecure girl. You don't see any of that anymore. They just never expected it to become a real passion. For example, I recently got my black belt and I'm quite proud of that. Taekwondo for me is also an expression of my feelings. For example, if I'm very angry or a too happy. All in all I would really recommend taekwondo to anyone.

You can save a life if you can provide first aid!

Imagine, you are walking down the street and suddenly a person collapses, what will you do? I think that most people will call an ambulance, but it takes an average of 10 minutes for an ambulance to arrive at the scene. If this person has a heart attack, waiting for the ambulance takes far too long, because after 4 to 6 minutes without oxygen, brain cells start dying.

Learning how to provide first aid is important, because you can help people before the ambulance is there. Research shows that people who are having a heart attack have a better chance of survival if bystanders can perform CPR, because it takes too long for the ambulance to arrive. It is also important, because the most accidents happen at home and most of the time nobody at home knows how to provide first aid.

During a first aid course you learn a lot of things, for example how to perform CPR, what to do if someone has eaten or drunk something toxic, how to treat someone with burns and much more. You don't only learn how to do all these things above; you also learn how to stay calm in a crisis situation. That is not only better for yourself, but you also prevent panic in others, and you can provide better assistance.

These are many reasons why you should learn how to provide first aid, which is why I think we should have first aid lessons at our school. We should get these lessons from people who are trained for this, and we should end with an exercise where you show everything you have learned in the lessons. That way everyone at this school can help someone who needs it.

What makes me tick: football

Football is a worldwide popular ball sport in which two teams of eleven players have to try to get the ball into the opponent's goal. The ball may be played with any part of the body, except arms and hands (except on the throw-in). These restrictions do not apply to the goalkeeper in his own penalty area. Football is also the most popular sport on this planet.

Football is good for your health, so it brings lots of health benefits with it like: increasing muscle mass and bone strength in inactive individuals, reducing body fat, building strength, stamina and speed, training your brain, improving concentration, coordination and more!

Football does not only bring physical health benefits, but also mental health benefits. Studies have shown that moderate depression responds to exercise equally as well as anti-depressant drugs. The obvious advantage of using exercise is that playing football for an hour or two doesn’t bring on any unwanted side-effects. The recent pandemic has increased the stress and anxiety people face every day. Dwelling on economic, familial and social problems often creates mental health issues. But playing football regularly offers a little escapism. Meeting with other people who are going through the same issues can put things in perspective. And being distracted for a few hours on a football pitch is a great way to leave life’s problems behind.

I am very passionate about football, because it brings a lot of physical and mental health benefits, but also because of the team spirit. When you play a match of football with your friends you literally do anything to win for the team, even if you don’t have a good stamina you try and do your best to get 100% out of you.

Dogs for health reasons

Why dogs should be used for health reasons

Dogs are lovely animals that are good for your mood. That’s why I think there should be more dogs trained to make peoples mood better. There are already dogs used this way but not enough in my opinion. That’s why I think there should be a company that is financially supported by the government to let people have such kind of dogs. The second reason dos should be used more is for people health conditions like asthma and diabetes.

The reason dogs should be used for health problems

My opinion is that I think that dogs good be very good for our mental health. I’ve got a dog myself and I feel a little bit better every time he comes up to me. They good be also good for people who feel lonely sometimes because the dog will give you company. And that could maybe prevent a mental illness like depression.

They could be also used for health problems like diabetes. Because you could train a dog to smell when you have low blood sugar. This of course takes a lot of training but I think it will be worth it, because then you would not have to buy a thing that constantly measures the blood sugar. And if somebody almost faints because they have a low blood sugar level the dog can grab something that helps against it. And I think its difficult to make a machine do this or having to let them carry something on them all day.

Conclusion

Dogs are great animals and can be used in different ways. They could be easily learnt things and are very helpful. They wouldn’t be expensive for the people because it will be a company run by the government so it’s a win-win.
Made by Rik Klinkhamer

What makes me tick: How does music have an impact on my and other people's lives? - Nazli Amjad

There are millions of people listening to music right now at this very moment. Some of them are listening to music on the radio, while others are using streaming apps such as Spotify or Apple Music. Everywhere you go you hear music, whether this is in a store, at school or while you’re working out in the gym.

Listening to music can help a person in many ways. For example, upbeat music, which can lighten your mood up and make you feel happier. Music in general can help you to reduce anxiety and depression. It can also help with improving the blood flow in your body. Within music there are many different genres such as hip hop, pop, rock, and many more, all these genres can have a different impact on your mood.

Secondly, making music provides people with jobs such as: singers, producers, writers, and people who can play instruments. It can be very difficult for an artist if their music doesn’t get as much recognition as they wanted/expected, especially after all the hard work they’ve put in. When this happens, social media can be very helpful for an artist. Because of social media there are a lot more artists and it’s easier for newer artists to get recognition or in some cases even become famous. Social media platforms like: Tiktok and Instagram can help an artist to find and reach their own audience and become big in the music industry. When an artist’s music goes viral on social media it can cause their music career to grow rapidly.

To sum up my thoughts: music plays a major role in my life. Most of the time you can catch me with earphones in while I’m listening to music. I love the fact that there are so many genres within music, this way there is something enjoyable for everyone!

What makes me tick: climate change, lowering the voting age to 16 (Carlijn Calori)

Young people need to get more influence on the world because it has to do with their future. 16-year-olds are given many responsibilities, they learn a lot about politics at school and form a political preference. But 16-year-olds are not allowed to express their political preference in the form of votes. While politics makes decision about the future, their future. Shouldn't they have more influence on politics? Isn't it time to lower the voting age to 16?

Climate change is an important topic. Something really needs to be done about this for the future. If young people from the age of 16 are allowed to vote, then there can also be more voting for a better approach to climate change. Because climate change is about the future. Politics makes decisions about the future of climate change, and this is about the future of young people.

Older people are allowed to vote while they are not really concerned with the future

they therefore usually don’t vote for a better approach against climate change. For the Elderly people, other things are more important, such as that the AOW goes up. Elderly people with dementia are allowed to vote while 16-year-olds are not.

It would be good if young people were given the right to vote so that they can make choices for their own future. Because older people are now allowed to keep their right to vote until death, the vote of the elderly weighs in proportionately heavier. If you lower the right to vote to the age 16 years, this difference becomes smaller. Politics makes choices for the future, and I think it would be good if young people were allowed to have a say in this themselves

What is horse-riding:

Horse-riding is a sport an Olympic sport even. The equestrian is sitting on the horses back and gives him instructions on what he needs to do. Back in the day horse-riding wasn’t a sport. Horses where transport or they were used in battles because of their strength and speed. There are many forms of horse-riding for example: western-racing-dressage-show jumping-cross country.

What do you need

There are different saddles for horse- riding. Jumping and racing saddle: this saddle has shorter stirrups; it helps the rider lean forward and allows horses to build up speed. Training saddle: it includes a deep seat with a higher cantle. Riding saddle: Western saddles must be comfortable for long distance riding. Apart from the saddle, different kinds of headbands or reins, bridles or halters are used to transmit the signals to the animal. You also need a horse riding clothes, helmet and boots.

Why World War II, you might ask? Why would such a sad and for most people traumatic event fascinate you? I think about this subject quite often, because we know so much about it already. For example when it happened, what happened, what the causes and the consequences were.

These are all things that are interesting to know, but these are not feelings or emotions. I think it is almost impossible to figure out what was going on in the minds of all the victims, who lived during the Second World War. ´Cause you can´t just look up on the internet: ¨Google, what was it like to live during World War II?¨ Of course you can try to imagine how horrible it must have been, based on the circumstances people lived in. However you never really know for sure.

I have always imagined how people would have felt who actually experiencied it. What they we´re thinking at that specific moment, for example when soldiers barged into people´s homes and forced them to go with them. In the end they would end up in a concentration camp like Westerbork. How did they feel? Were they scared? Did already know what was going or didn´t they not know anything about what was going to happen, at the time. I´m pretty sure i would be really scared to die. And also be really devistated to be separated from my parents and my older sister. Lastly I would like to say that I have the utmost respect for all the soldiers who fought for the freedom we enjoy today.

What makes me tick: Football

Football originated in Greece. The game became popular in many countries and is now played in the whole world. It was in England where the rules were made for football, from then on football changed quickly. Today a game is played with eleven players a side (one goalkeeper and ten field players) and has a playtime of ninety minutes. The measurements of a pitch differ, there is a minimum and maximum number of meters.

The game is led by a referee and two linesmen. The most difficult rule in football is offside, where the linesmen play an important role.

In the first place,

Football helps you to keep yourself healthy and fit. It is al about running and physical movement what makes you fit and active. Football is also a teamsport what makes you disciplined to help each other, and you make a lot of friends in your team.

In addition,

Football is also a great game for you mental health. If you are stressed, it can be very good to play football, to get your mind of things and have a laugh with your teammates.

I really like football myself. I love playing it since I am five years old and wanting to win every game on Saturday. But I also really like watching it. I am a big Ajax fan and go to a lot of matches in the stadium. I would also like to do something in football as a profession, unfortunately I don’t have the skills to become a professional football player, but I can be a team manager or scout. The bottom line is that football is not “just” a game, it is good for your (mental) health and your social life.

1

Fast fashion is a marketing method where they produce a lot of clothes really fast. These types of stores have a new clothing line every season, they want to stay on top of the most recent trends. Examples of these types of stores are Zara and H&M. The clothes are cheaper and not of the best quality. Nevertheless, these stores are very popular, because they have the newest fashion trends.

2

Fast fashion has a big influence on the environment. The fast fashion industry is the second most polluting industry in the world. Most of these clothes are made in poor countries where they use coal for the production. The production of fast fashion produces a lot of CO2 emissions, and some chemicals end up in our drinking water. The fast production of clothes ensures that every year we throw away 85% of our clothes. Added to this, 10% of the plastic in the ocean is due to our clothes.

3

These influences are bad for the environment. The CO2 emissions trap the heat from the earth, causing the earth to warm up, this can cause climate change. Because of the plastic in the ocean animals are dying and become extinct. The chemicals in our water are bad for our health and this can make you pass away sooner.

4

I buy a lot of my clothes from fast fashion stores, because I like the new trends. This makes me part of the pollution of the environment. Now I know that the fast fashion industry is very bad for the environment. And because I now have this knowledge, I think we should do something about it. For example, we should throw away less clothes or recycle them. If we work together, I think we can alter the course of climate change and environmental pollution.

Author: Lois Breusers

What makes me tick: World War II

1
Why World War II, you might ask? Why would such a sad and for most people traumatic event fascinate you? I think about this subject quite often, because we know so much about it already. For example when it happened, what happened, what the causes and the consequences were.

2
These are all things that are interesting to know, but these are not feelings or emotions. I think it is almost impossible to figure out what was going on in the minds of all the victims, who lived during the Second World War. ´Cause you can´t just look up on the internet: ¨Google, what was it like to live during World War II?¨ Of course you can try to imagine how horrible it must have been, based on the circumstances people lived in. However you never really know for sure.

3
I have always imagined how people would have felt who actually who experiencied it.

4
I´m pretty sure i would be really scared to die. And also be really devistated to be separated from my parents and my older sister. Lastly I would like to say that I have the utmost respect for all the soldiers who fought for the freedom we enjoy today.

What makes me tick: Listening to music when I study. (Lisa Overwater)

Who doesn't recognize the following? Your parents saying you have to turn off your music, because you wouldn't be able to concentrate properly while studying. Is that really true? The general belief is that listening to music can reduce stress, improve your mood and even help with dementia. How about listening to music while studying?

A major challenge of studying is often to begin and keep concentrated. You could solve that by listening to music while you study. This ensures that you have more motivation, because the music makes learning more fun. You will also notice that your thoughts no longer wander that easily. Adding soft music creates a kind of background noise. This allows your brain to concentrate better on what you are studying, instead of entertaining itself with other distractions.

Listening to music while studying also helps to record and process the knowledge better. So the music helps your brain function better. This appears to be largely due to your emotional state. Your emotions tell your brain if something is important then make your brain storing it. Music activates those brain regions that control your emotions. If you listen to music that you like, your brain makes the substance dopamine. Dopamine creates a happy feeling and makes you study better.

So if you want to remember things better while studying, you have to improve your motivation and your emotional state. You can do this by listening to music you like. I really like listing to music. It is something I could do all day. Personally, I like to listen to music too while studying, but with some people it can actually work to their disadvantage. They only listen to their music and do not focus at all on studying. The best thing is to try it out yourself.

Fast food is a term for food that is prepared and served quickly and is relatively cheap. The most famous restaurants are McDonald’s, Subway, KFC, and Burger King, but there are also bad things about this.

First, it’s very bad for the environment. The amount of land that you need for the production is enormous. Meat and dairy farms are the biggest factor for land use globally. These industries use as much as 10% of global water flows, which is also a very big problem. The emissions of greenhouse gases can lead to global warming which can be changing the planet and affect our lives. Second, its unhealthy and all the carbs and sugar can lead to increase blood sugar and insulin. Thirdly, animal cruelty: the animals that we eat at fast food restaurants like chickens, are mostly being kept at farms with not even enough space to move. They live in a terrible condition and the ones that survive get killed in a horrible way.

What we can do is to stop eating meat, or at least less then we do now. By eating less meat and replacing it more often with legumes and nuts, you reduce the risk of various disease. Its also better for the environment and leads to less greenhouse gas emissions.

I personally think that we need to do something about this, because it all affects our lives and the world, we live in. We can’t keep killing animals and using all the land we have just to eat them. There are so many other things we can eat that are ecofriendly and have less co2 emissions.

Marijn Jeukens

What makes me tick: Is criminality hereditary?

Every now and then you see a news article about criminals and their crimes. The authors mostly write about how they've committed these crimes and not why they did it, while that is the most important question that needs to be answered. When we think of criminals, most people immediately think of murderers and the terrible things they've done, but what if I say that there might be a reason behind those people's actions and that they may not be able to do anything about it themselves.

There have been some investigations into whether the criminal acts of your ancestors influence your own behaviour. The answer to that question is yes. Scientists have proved that a genetic combination in the DNA is the reason behind the weird acts of criminals and that it can be transferred to children. Whether the genetic combination expresses, depends on the environment of the child

A more social explanation is that the criminals from this time learned their habits from their ancestors. They got used to see their parents commit crimes and so it became normal for them. Socialization plays a big part in becoming a criminal or not, so it can also be because of the environment or the things that have happened in the past.

So, if I must answer the question 'is criminality hereditary' I would say no, because it's rather the process of socialization than something that is genetically determined. Research showed us that there is a genetic combination that causes the acting of criminals, but it still needs to be expressed and that depends on the socialization. I would like to really get the answers to these questions and that's why I want to study criminology.

(Charissa de Water)

Traveling can mean something different for everyone. There are many reasons to travel. For example, people can travel to relax, to have great time, to discover new cultures, to escape from their problems or to check certain countries off their bucket list.

By traveling you learn a lot about different countries and their culture. Culture is not always visible, but by talking with the residents you learn about their way of thinking and about their habits. As a result, you may begin to appreciate your own culture more. You may also adopt things from other cultures that make you feel good and adopt things that can make your life better.

People also travel to relax, to have fun or to take some time for their selves. Some people can relax by laying at the beach or at the pool all day with a book or a serie. Other people like to take a walk, to bike or to do another sport to enjoy the nature.

I like to travel because it is very relaxing and because I like to see new things of the world. My favorite trip was to Thailand. I went there in 2019. The people there lived in a completely different way than we do here in the Netherlands. In the big cities, like Bangkok, it was very busy and there was a lot of traffic, but it was amazing to see. The nature in Thailand is beautiful. Especially some places in the jungle, some of the views or the big rice fields were beautiful.

Anniek Bijvoet

The people with a mental problem have an average waiting time of 20 weeks. They have to wait 5 months before they can be treated and that is too much. It’s a social problem, where we need to help each other. Mental issues are serious business, where we need to be aware of.

In general, the health of people is their number one priority. People in the Netherlands have to wait about 20 weeks, that is 5 months, and that is not normal. Be aware that they have to feel so misunderstood in the 5 months that they can get depression in addition to their problem. It makes it only worse than it was. So the people with mental issues need to be fast treated, before it makes it worse.

Following this argument, the consequences are seriously bad. The people can feel so misunderstood that their only way is to end their lives. And that is a serious case that we need to avoid. They’re throwing their lives away and miss so many things in life. The joy of their lives is gone. Imagine that you’re living 5 months without getting understood and helped.

Humans have polluted earth for centuries and have to deal with the consequences now. Humanity's increased use of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas to generate electricity and deforestation are main causes for climate change because living trees absorb and store carbon dioxide. More frequent and intense drought, storms, heat waves, rising sea levels, melting glaciers and warming oceans that can harm animals are some consequences.

It's important that we understand that the earth will be harder to live on if we do not do anything about climate change. The world will look totally different it is important that we do something now because we made this mess ourselves an now it is time save the world. We are fortunate to live in a beautiful, clean and diverse planet. Our children, and all future generations, deserve the same.

Climate change will mean big changes for nature and animals around the world. So if we care about incredible species, we must care about how climate change will make it harder for them to find food, and decrease their abitats. The air that we breathe will also get affected because climate change pollutes the air and that can lead to asthma, heart and lung disease. Even a small increase in global temperatures will destabilise the water cycle and could make water scarcity much worse. Climate change affects rainfall patterns, meaning both drought and flooding will be more common, and more intense.

The consequences that I have mentioned are reasons for us to take climate change serious and take certain measures on our daily lives.

Football is the most well-known sport on the world, the World Championship of 2018 counted over 3,5 billion viewers and the sport counts more than 250 million active players. The sport is the most well known in Europe and South America but keeps growing all around the globe. It has been around here for more than 200 years and became a part of culture for a lot of countries, but why has it become so important for many people and what makes the sport so fascinating?

The sport football is still a growing sport. One of the reasons behind this is because in many countries it’s almost standard for a boy to play the sport. In the case of many children their father has also played the sport and that kind of forces them to go play it as well because it runs in the family. Another possible reason for the popularity could be that being a Prof earns you a lot of money and that’s a reason why many kids want to play it and why they watch the sport. Nevertheless, al lot of people also just enjoy watching the sport without wanting to get better at it,

The sport is so fascinating for many people because of the hard work that that the players put into the game. Football is a simple game when looking at it but when playing it requires a lot of hard work and that’s what a lot of people enjoy even more about it. Not that it is a piece of cake or anything.

For me means football a lot. I have played it since I was little, and still play it to this day. It has taught me a lot about working and helping others. It’ll always be a something I love.

My English Composition about pets.

Pets are unique and the most adorable creatures on the planet. Pets love us and give us the company. Owning a pet comes with various responsibilities, and it is a fantastic way of learning how to take care of somebody. Pets are beautiful and loyal. There are very many different types of pets in the world. The most popular pets are cats and dogs.

Pets are like family members and should be well taken care of. You need to make sure you feed your pet everyday and pay enough attention to it. You shouldn't get a pet when u dont like animals, because then you won't give it enough attention and food.

My pet animal is a cat. We got her a few years ago, because me and my sisters really wanted a cat. At first my mother didn't want a cat, because she didn't like cats, but after a few months we convinced her and we got her. Her name is Dibbes and she is gray/white. She loves to do her own things and go outside, but she also loves to sit with us. My mother made a good sleeping spot for her, but she never slept there. She also has her own room which is also our sport room. When she was younger she usually teared apart our banks and chairs. So we forced her to sleep on her room at night,

Caring for a pet becomes difficult. We must take care of them and make sure they visit the vet regularly. We must look out for ticks and other skin infections. Maintaining a pet comes with many responsibilities, and we must fulfill them and do what is best for our pets.

What makes me tick:
Football (max hissink)

1.
Football was invented 2000 years ago by China who called it ''tsung chu''. But the official football history started in 1863 when England set up the football association. Since then there only became more and more associations, leagues and clubs. It is a passion now for many many people all around the world. Football has a huge impact on people.

2.
When football started to grow in popularity, World cups were invented by the FIFA in 1928. Because of the world cups, everyone in literally every country in the world, knew what football was. There was also a European cup in the 60's which was also very popular. Its just the feeling when there is a game from your favourite club or country for me. If they score a goal the adrenaline goes through my body and I am so happy after that.

3.
When the television came it became even more enjoyable. You are going to sit with your family and watch football, isn't that great?
