         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Formative - Open Book</strong><br>Learners are asked to - Describe the four medical conditions that may be triggered by or be exacerbated by the use of force and the signs associated with each condition.<br>Learners are allowed to use the notes they have taken during the week to look these conditions up and what are the trigger/warning signs they are looking for.<br><strong>Why </strong>- This is an important part of any restraint, so all operational staff must know the four medical emergencies and the trigger/warning signs.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Summative - Closed book</strong><br>Learners are asked to - Describe the approval process required in order to deploy a restraint team as specified in the SPS Use of Force Policy.<br>Learners have to answer this individually under test conditions on their own without notes being present.<br><strong>Why</strong> - learners must meet the pass mark during this assessment and must meet the unit specification set by SPSC.</div>]]></description>

These techniques will be observed by the the instructors on an ongoing assessment to see if the learner is requiring further tuition on any of the techniques.<br><strong>Why</strong> - Learners get a weeks intense training in Control &amp; Restraint to prepare them for any challenging potentially violent situation they may face.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Summative - Open Book </strong><br>Learners in their groups will be asked to Demonstrate and Drill Control &amp; Restraint Technique through a range of scenarios from different independent Instructors. This is a Competent or Not Yet Competent assessment for the learners.<br>Learners will have another chance to pass if they are deemed Not Yet Competent.<br><strong>Why</strong> - Learners have to be prepared for every eventuality within the prison environment and this training builds the learners confidence in dealing with potentially a volatile situation.</div>]]></description>
