Watson Ch. 14 Connector by Mrs. Laudato

We have now reviewed the three types of connections you can make with a given text. After reading chapter 14 in The Watsons Go To Birmingham, share FOUR connections ( one from each icon) using the Connector assignment. Type your written responses in a PAGES document and then once edited, post here on the Padlet. Please write in complete, detailed sentences and keep the font 12 point and Times New Roman. The "title" of your post should be your first name. I look forward to reading through these and sharing connections as a class!

Once you have posted your connections, respond/comment on at least 3 classmate posts. Be respectful and make connections between your own connections and theirs in relation to our novel.

A current event at the time when the book takes place is was segregation in certain city’s. For Across the disciplines I put for something I experienced was on Monday I was walking to the car with my mom there was a black car who turned of there car lights and slowly rooked toward us and so that is something scary I experienced just like In the selection. Some of the cultural norms in 1963 were a lot of people treated black people different then white and threatened black black people to. Something that happens in the book and in real life was a actual bomb went of in a church during 1963.

This connects to the my own life because the Watsons go to church on Sundays just like my family and I do. This selection relates to a subject like social studies because it is talking about someone bombing the church in Birmingham, 1963. When we compare and contrast the past and the present, like in 1963 when black and white people didn’t get along. In the present, black and white people get along sometimes. The prejudice that was revealed was the white people bombing the church because they didn’t like the blacks. That’s why Martin Luther King Jr. made his “I have a Dream” speech.

My connection between the selection and my life is imagining someone doing bad things when bad things happen, like Kenny who imagines the Wool Pooh. I stopped imagining this person when I was five, and I only imagined it because of a movie I watched.

My connection between the selection and a book is a book about Martin Luther King Jr. It includes the fact that his house was blown up, and that very same thing happened to Joey's church.

My connection between the selection and cultural norms is that many people take three-week vacations like the Watsons when they went and stayed in Birmingham for about that amount of time.

My connection between the selection's prejudices and our present-day prejudices is the policeman shooting a colored person. The policeman thought he was holding a gun, and also the colored man was in his own backyard! I think I can relate that to the bombing of Joey's church in the selection because I really think that the policeman would not have shot the young man if he was white.
