They were trying to wipe out the indigenous people evenatually. They called this policy the assimaltion policy. When they were at this mission/school some of them remembered their parents and would cry to themselves. For some people, they got captured at age 8- 12 so they knew who their parents were and sometimes it would get so bad ( that they would feel so depressed) that they would cry themselves to sleep. For the parents, i think that it was harder fo them if they were younger children because they would possibly never know them or know that they were taken away from their families. But most people would feel so sorry for  the kids that were taken from ages 3 - 6 because they would be the most confused/ scared. But all in all, i think that both the parents and the kids were both devastated that they were taken away from family.
