Noticing a students physical appearance deteriorated, followed by an alarming/questionable answer/classroom contribution. I went to head of year who confirmed my suspicions, and luckily was already flagged and was being handled efficiently. It made me aware and more vigilant in areas of safeguarding.

Everyone is responsible. It is the highest responsibility in any educational setting. Every child has the right to feel safe, supported, respected in their setting, and it is our responsibility to observe and ensure wellbeing. I implemented a new seating plan when I took over a Y9 class after half-term, having observed them since week 1. There was a reaction from the whole class after I paired two particular students (boy and girl) together, which I shut down. At the end of the lesson, the male student approached me and I could tell he was going to ask to be moved seat. I inquired for the reasoning, but he looked visibly uncomfortable when telling me he had been sat next to her last year and she would regularly distract him. He did not want to share any more information other than describing her behaviour as "weird" so I said to leave it with me. I flagged it on CPOMs and simply moved him next to a peer with an empty seat. This issue was picked up by the year team. It also avoided moving other students around and exposing the issue to the whole class.

A student I had never met in a discussion just on the way to his next lesson disclosed some information about their home life that was strong concern for criminal/harmful activity. I reported immediately to DSL and logged on CPOMS before I taught my next lesson.

That children’s safety is the number one priority at a school. Therefore every safeguarding measure should be followed. Eg completing the register accurately at the start of the lesson

I recently had to report a disclosure at my placement 1. I took down the necessary information, with asking clear, open-ended questions which were not leading. Keeping a neutral expression and tone of voice, I then escallated this to the host teacher, and also discussed it with the DSL as it was quite severe. It highlighted the importance of relationships with students, where this student felt comfortable making a disclosure to me.

As a PE Teacher, we often have PE staff changing room inside the changing room which we stay in after the register and if the students need any support or need extra kit etc. most students often forget that we’re actually in there and we get to hear and observe everything behind the doors and sometimes there’s some concerning conversations that must be chased up and passed on.

During a PSHE session discussing sharing images online - a discussion arose where a student expressed potentially concerning behaviour from other students in the school. Along with another member of staff we had a conversation with the student, other students involved & followed up with her carer to ensure the student wasn't at risk of harm and that the appropriate students could be spoken to about the implications of this behaviour.

As a art and design teacher, safeguarding students involves creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment while proactively addressing risks to their physical emotion and mental well-being. Such as creating a enviroment that encourages making mistakes where students feel respected and valued.

Safeguarding is the priority in any classroom, and the entire school day as a whole. Safeguarding is teachers' most important responsibility. It is incumbent upon all in the profession to remain up to date with training on safeguarding and to be vigilant in reporting anything that could be a sign of abuse or neglect to the school's DSL. This includes abuse by fellow staff members. Bullying of students by their peers in school should be typically be reported to Head of Year/House in the first instance, then to senior leadership to escalate if necessary.

As a history teacher, I am responsible for creating a safe and respectful learning environment. For example, history teachers have to teach sensitive, emotional and controversial histories. I would safeguard pupils by introducing ground rules at the start of the topic, using the correct terminology and encouraging questions. This would encourage pupils, particularly those of ethnic minority, to feel included and protected in the classroom.

I was observing a lesson and noticed a student was sensitive to noise. So I was with him through out the lesson and mentioned to me that he had a teaching assistant but does not require one. I spoke to the host teacher about that student and she also had the same feeling as I did.
