Amelia and Emmeline moved the box around with the bumpy surface. Casandra encouraged them to move the box up and down to move the balls around. Amelia said “Look they are moving” as the balls rolled back and forth. Emmeline smiled with excitement. Lili helped Isla, Alex and Kai with the smooth surfaced box with the paint and shaving cream. She showed them they can lift the box to move the textured balls and push it back and forth on the floor. Alex initiated a new way of movement, by rolling the balls with her hands back and forth in the box. Kai and Isla followed Alex`s lead. Isla and Alex commented on the texture of the shaving cream “It`s sticky” they said as the rolled the balls back and forth. Patty helped out Lennox and Ella move the box around to shift the balls back and forth.

All the children had the opportunity to explore the different movements through the different textures. They all took turns engaging with the boxes and art materials, and observing how each ball moved and rolled on the different surfaces.
