Prospero's benignant tone towards Miranda is key for a successful relationship. Prospero utilizes words towards Miranda that he would not use towards Caliban or his sibling the Duke of Milan. The word "dear" and the phrase "take comfort" is utilized while Prospero and Miranda are talking together. The words "horrible" and "slave" are utilized towards Caliban. The words slave and horrible is used to depict something awful. A slave is an unfortunate man that is compelled to work for someone, and horrible is an adjective used to portray something that will cause horror. if one would compare the two relationships Miranda's relationship would plainly be more helpful and effective than Caliban's. At the end of act 1 scene 3, Caliban winds up leaving Prospero and running with Stephano instead. Prospero's tone is the motivation behind why Miranda remains close to him. Unlike what he does to Caliban. Prospero never yells at Miranda nor does he hurt her in any way Miranda is living in Xanadu. It is safe to say their relationship has a good feel to it

Prospero’s and Miranda's kindly tone towards each other shows a positive father-daughter relationship. First of all, Prospero uses the word that is favorable such as “smile” and “dear” when speaking to Miranda, and Miranda uses words such as “Good” and “Dear father”. When using negative language it makes the situation worse one thing that is most, not welcome in a heartwarming father-daughter relationship. When talking to Caliban Prospero uses more impulsive language such as when Prospero says “Horrible” and “Worthless”. Eluding to the fact the Prospero and Caliban have a negative relation ship. Thus Prosper uses superior language with his daughter so has a positive relation ship with his daughter.

Prospero’s reaction towards his daughter shows love and affection, though he acts different while he's with Miranda and when he’s with Ariel. Essentially Prospero tells Ariel to put a spell on Frenidad for him to fall in love with his daughter. When Miranda and Frenidad fall for eachother he’s delighted because his ‘spell’ had worked out. When he realizes that they actually fell in love he uses it to his advantage and tries to become the duke of Milan again. Prospero goes on to make Frenidad work to see how much he loves Miranda. Frenidad then shows his love for Miranda by doing whatever Prospero asks for. Trust in a relationship is essential for a relationship to workout, having credibility and reliability accelerates to a successful relationship. Frenidad was the first man Miranda had seen other than her father and instantly fell in love with, she relied on him. Having trust would not create arguments in a relationship, though not having trust would make the relationship fall apart.

A good father/daughter relationship can be mutually beneficial. This is shown in “The Tempest", the explanation of how Prospero was exiled. Firstly, Prospero didn’t want to hide about the exile, from Miranda. The exile, which was taken place 12 years ago, was what had left Prospero and Miranda on the island. This memory was the reason of what had kept a distance from Prospero and Antonio, which later made them enemies. This must have been a very hard subject to talk about, especially with family members. “No, you kept me going, your smile helped me through that terrible time”. Prospero really loves Miranda, and this is what makes a good relationship. It must have been a terrifying moment, but Miranda just being with Prospero helped him through the terrible time, as Miranda is his special one and only daughter. Therefore, a good father/daughter relationship can be mutually beneficial, shown through the explanation of how Prospero was exiled.

Prospero’s reaction to his daughter’s love affair

Prospero reacts very pleased to his daughter's love affair with Ferdinand to create a mutually beneficial father/daughter relationship. Firstly, he makes Ferdinand in love with Miranda by using Ariel's music sounds that drew attention to Ferdinand. This means that Prospero wants Miranda to know life outside of the island by introducing her to love. Although the love between Miranda and Ferdinand was love at first sight, Prospero approached this in a tactical manner for the benefit of Miranda because he wanted to see if Ferdinand "really" loved her. Prospero did this by making Ferdinand do labor work such as cutting wood. This is further reinforced when Prospero seems satisfied by the state of their relationship. He says that "They're so happy, and so am I" and "Heaven bless their love for each other". Therefore, Prospero's tactical manner and his understanding of creating a mutually beneficial relationship with Miranda helped create a successful love affair which pleased her father.

The explanation of how Prospero was exiled

Prospero telling Miranda the reason why he was exiled shows there is honesty and affection in their relationship. Prospero truthfully explains to Miranda why they were exiled from their home. Prospero doing this he is proving his honesty towards her because he was able to tell her a false story and have no one say that he is lying. While he was explaining Miranda thought that she was a burden to him during all of that. Prospero replied by saying, "No. You kept me going. Your smile helped me through that terrible time." We can prove that during the rough period of his laugh, she was the reason he had kept on going through all of it. Prospero could of just have left her with his brother and he could have taken care of her, or maybe her mother could have taken her but he still choose her over anything. Therefore, by Prospero being trustworthy and affectionate this is a great base for a perfect father/daughter relationship.

As being banished from the kingdom and after losing his role as the Duke of Milan, Prospero lost a lot but one thing he did not let out of his sight was his daughter Miranda. He loved her, raised her, and cared for her in the darkest times. With no thought of what may happen to them both, Prospero took responsibility and care for Miranda as they sailed off to what could have been the end for them both if it was not for the island they stumbled on along their journey. This is later shown when Caliban threatened to hurt Miranda. Prospero soon took it into his own hands and saved her from what could have ended in pain and sorrow. His love and care for her were too strong as to let Caliban take that away from them both which is what gave him the strength to defend her, and yet again, save her when she needed it most. Therefore, Prospero’s love and care for his daughter has to lead him to be her hero which made the relationship between them both crucial to their life events that already have occurred and from what may come.

Prospero started the tempest in hopes to be the duke again, however, he got the same satisfaction while watching his daughter fall in love. He was able to forget everything that happened and was able to focus on Miranda’s contentment, for the slightest moment. A natural reaction for a father in a circumstance similar like this is frustration. Miranda hasn’t experienced normal, and because of that became very close to her father. Prospero should have felt angry since someone was taking Miranda away from him, and her finally growing out of this stage, however, he wasn’t. Prospero’s reaction helped Miranda get her happiness without any obstacles, and this helped their relationship be built on compromising and understanding.

Miranda fell in love with Ferdinand, which was all part of Prospero's plan, Prospero froze Ferdinand so that Ferdinand could demonstrate his solid love for Miranda. Ferdinand assured his love when he thinks to himself" I don't mind doing this hard work because I'm doing it for the woman I love." He assures the reader that he will do anything for Miranda's love. Prospero predicted that Miranda would fall in more love with Ferdinand if he made his love harder to obtain, Prospero is in complete support of Miranda and Ferdinand's marriage and love. He is supportive of Miranda and Ferdinand because he knows that if he becomes the father in law of Ferdinand, the prince of Naples, he would come in power and possibly take back his previous title, Duke Of Milan. This is a win-win situation for both characters and shows how Prospero cares for Miranda and cared for her relationship further confirming that Prospero and Miranda have a strong and healthy relationship.

If successful, it can create an instructive and touching environment which is shown through Prospero’s reaction to his daughter’s love affair. He initially manipulated Ferdinand so that he would fall in love with Miranda, only to later choose that he does not want their love rushed. This point is valid because of the fact that he does not want their love to be conjured and rushed this shows that he not only cares for his daughter but also wants her to have a strong and healthy relationship. Therefore, the fact that Prospero cares for his daughter’s relationship reflects on his understanding of a healthy father-daughter relationship. Therefore, communicating with your family and understanding issues can help reconcile differences and misunderstandings.

However, at times Prospero can be egocentric to get what he wants, but there was one exception, Miranda. Towards Miranda, he used the words "dear” and phrase "take comfort” to employ his love and care towards her. Prospero wanted love to form between Miranda and Ferdinand, but not in any ordinary way, he created complications, in order for them to fight one another. This was all to show that he does love his daughter and wants her to be happy but only if things go his way. Nonetheless, later on when he saw the joy on Miranda’s face, he became more focused on her contentment, especially when he said “They are so happy, and so am I, but I have a lot to get done before dinner" This demonstrates a non traditional father/daughter relationship between both Miranda and Prospero. The traditional father/daughter relationship is usually one of love and over protection. Though Prospero and Miranda don't fit this traditional mold, they are completely different from others, however, as the story continues, their bond gets stronger, unleashing their blinded love.

When Ferdinand gets ready to attack Prospero, Prospero puts Ferdinand in a situation of danger and a state of vulnerability to prove his love for Miranda.

Prospero’s kindly tone towards Miranda shows a friendly, well-bonded father and daughter relationship between one another. When Miranda starts sobbing, looking at the suffering people in the storm in Act 1 Scene 2, Prospero says “Everything I’ve done is for you, dear daughter. There are many things you don’t know”, to comfort her. His act of trying to make her feel better shows that he cares about her and hopes for her best. Also in Act 2 Scene 1, Prospero quotes “No. You kept me going. Your smile helped me through that terrible time.” This quote is relating to the time that the King of Naples army dragged Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan and Miranda and offloaded the duo to sea. Prospero expresses his love towards Miranda by saying that without his beloved daughter’s smile during their depressing trip, he would’ve been very miserable. A good father and daughter relationship can be established by caring for each other and strengthening their bond through difficult times, like during the sea storm in Act 2, Scene 1.

Prospero and his daughter, Miranda, represents a positive relationship by keeping a balance through communication and through use of fond tones towards each other. Miranda treats her father with respect and admiration, as her father does to her. When speaking to Prospero, Miranda had once said, “Oh, my heart bleeds, to think o' th' teen that I have turned you to, which is from my remembrance! Please you, farther”, (I.ii.63–65) which conveys that she cares about her father’s feelings, expressing that she genuinely cares. She also exhibits respect for him by calling Prospero ‘sir’, or ‘my dearest father’. When Prospero speaks to Miranda, Prospero also uses admirable phrases and words such as calling Miranda, “my dear one”, (I.ii.17) or saying things such as, “Be collected. No more amazement. Tell your piteous heart there’s no harm done.” (I.ii.13–15), assuring Miranda when she may be upset of an issue, which also exhibits that he has a fondness towards Miranda. However, at times Prospero can be egocentric to get what he wants, but there was one exception, of which was Miranda. Prospero wanted love to manifest among Miranda and Ferdinand, but not in any ordinary way, he created complications in order for them to fight one another and to test their love. This was all to show that he genuinely adores Miranda in a way where he wants her to be happy, but only if things are done his way. Hence, Prospero and Miranda uses affectionate and good-natured language with his daughter, conveying a positive, loving relationship with each other and as father and daughter in a non-traditional way.

The relationship between Prospero and Miranda discloses a virtuous and close Father/Daughter relationship. In William Shakespeare's play “The Tempest”, Prospero uses a kind, considerate manner towards his daughter. However, he sometimes is strict to his daughter, in order of her protection. This was demonstrated by Prospero in Act 1 when Ferdinand and Miranda fell in love. In this scene, Prospero notices his daughter and Ferdinand falling in love So he uses his powers to manipulate and control Ferdinand entirely. “But I need to cause a little trouble between them, or else they’ll never appreciate the value of their love.” This quote states that Prospero is aiming to help the two individuals understand the importance of love. Furthermore, in Act 1, Prospero explains his story of how his brother took over the role of being the duke of Milan. Whilst explaining his story, he expresses how Miranda’s smile kept strong and ongoing in his hard times. “God, what a burden on you I must have been … No, my dear, you were a little angel who kept me going. You smiled with a strength you must have gotten from heaven, while I cried salty tears into the salty sea, and groaned at our situation. Your smile sustained my spirits against whatever would come our way.” This quote proves the strong bond between each others because it justifies how precious Miranda was to Prospero. Therefore, Prospero’s actions along with Miranda’s presence illustrates a close Father/Daughter bond.

Prospero’s explanation of his usurpation to Miranda could suggest that their father/daughter relationship progressed into a positive and honest manner. This is supported by the fact that Miranda was attentive towards her father, Prospero, despite her drowsiness, as he spoke of his tales. Which could mean that she was trying to comfort her father through his emotional state, by being along each step with him, while the recollection of his agony. Additionally, Miranda seemed empathetic for her father on their shared, repressed tragedy. As Miranda commented, “How awful! I can’t remember how I cried then, but I’ll cry all over again. This story breaks my heart” (i.ii.133-135), she expressed her gratitude to her father. Hence this proves a flowering strong bond between Miranda and Prospero that is worthwhile for both of them.

Prospero’s reaction to his daughter's love affair represents his love and affection towards her. Firstly Prospero lured Ferdinand into loving Miranda by using the music of Ariel as shown in act 1 scene 2, when Ferdinand was walking on the island, after he heard the music, he was determined to find where the music is coming from. Prospero did this on purpose because he wants Miranda to have true love. Her love towards Ferdinand was love at first sight. In act 1 scene 2 Prospero plan has worked just as he intended, he wanted Ferdinand and Miranda to fall in love. He did this so that Miranda would find her true love. Prospero was relieved when Ferdinand said “I’ll make you the queen of Naples”, he already knew that she was the one for him to marry, and his vision was becoming true. He wanted to make sure that their love was sincere so he made Ferdinand do an immense amount of work so that we would be sure. As shown in act 3 scene 1, Ferdinand worked for him by taking his wood and making him sweat to be assured that this love was true. Prospero thought “Heaven bless their love for each other”, he was assured and overwhelmed by his succession plan. This reflects on how he wanted Miranda to have a pleasant life with someone she actually loves.

Prospero and his daughter, Miranda, illustrates a positive father/daughter relationship, through communicating affectionate tones for one another. Prospero handles his daughter with respect and gentle approach. When Prospero speaks to Miranda, Prospero calls Miranda with adoration phrases such as, “my dear one”, (I.ii.17) or “cherubim” (I.ii.155). Even stating things to Miranda being, “Be collected. No more amazement. Tell your piteous heart There’s no harm done.” (I.ii. 13-15), which displays that he has concern for Miranda, soothing Miranda when she may be bothered by an issue. At times, Prospero can be conceited to get what he desires, but with the exception of Miranda. Despite, his kind tones towards Miranda, when talking to Caliban, a slave who serves Prospero, Prospero utilizes crueler, harsh wording, as "—What, ho! Slave! Caliban! Thou earth, thou! Speak.” (I. ii. 317-18), implying that Prospero and Caliban have a negative relationship, unlike Prospero and Miranda. Prospero uses affectionate language with his daughter, revealing a positive, loving relationship with each other and as father and daughter.

Acknowledging that he didn’t accept this from Ferdinand, Shakespeare expresses to the audience that Prospero had a more stable and healthy relationship with his daughter, for he doesn’t value others in the same manner. He tries to the best of his ability to keep her safe from danger, like with Caliban. Prospero did act cruel towards Ferdinand, but that was only to make sure his plan would succeed as they “they'll never appreciate the value of their love, ”(Act 1, Scene 2, Page 21). Prospero acts in the best interests of his daughter. To conclude, this illustrated to the reader that the love in this father/daughter relationship is mutual, and they value each others company.

A good father/daughter relationship can be very beneficial as shown through Prospero’s reaction to his daughter's love affair. When Prospero decided that is was the right time to introduce Ferdinand to Miranda, as he thought he would be the perfect suitor. “What a pleasant meeting between two people truly in love! May heaven bless the feelings growing between them!” Prospero notices that his daughter, Miranda had never seen a man other than him and Caliban, therefore Prospero decided that since he knows Ferdinand , he would be the best guy to his daughter’s love, and take good care of her. Soon Ferdinand's love for Miranda was strong, so Prospero decided that he doesn’t want to give his daughter’s love without enhancing the value for her reputation, by making Ferdinand work for them by carrying wood. Prospero realizes that Ferdinand needs to work for his love. Therefore, not only did he make Ferdinand carry out the role that is typically carried out by Caliban, who is essentially Prospero’s slave. He also wasn't initially treating him in a good way as he told him. He is also speaking to Ferdinand in a rude way saying Soon Ferdinand and Miranda’s love got stronger, as Prospero was coming off as rude and commanding Ferdinand to work in order to earn Miranda’s love. “Could I have a word with you sir? I’m afraid you’ve made a mistake. Just a word.” Although Ferdinand kept working and working, his love to Miranda was more valuable, as in when you work for something and earn it its feels like you really want it and your really happy with it. Prospero and Miranda share positive vibes with each other and that lead to Prospero allowing Miranda and Ferdinand to be engaged with his consent.

As Prospero explains his exile to Miranda, he says, “You kept me going. Your smile helped me through that terrible time.” When Porspero was banished by his own brother, he must’ve felt a sense of abandonment and despair. He had gone through a period of trauma. Prospero was able to focus on Miranda, and her happiness kept him going. This point is further established when Prospero says that everything he has done is for his daughter. Prospero has gone to great lengths to protect Miranda, and get what is best for her. He is even willing to hatch a plan that manipulates the king’s son, all for his daughter, Miranda. Miranda’s character is very compassionate, as was seen in her concern for the boat in the storm. Prospero’s manipulative plan could backfire if Miranda finds out about it. This shows that Prospero’s love for his daughter is greater than his fear of the consequences of his actions. The communication between Prospero and Miranda demonstrates mutual adoration, and this has created a successful emotional bond between the two characters.

A healthy Father/Daughter relationship must be mutual. Prospero's reaction to his daughter's love affair was creating a positive emotional and mutual relationship. “ They’re both in love. But I need to cause a little trouble between them, or else they’ll never appreciate the value of their love.”The accusation was on Ferdinand since that was the way Prospero's plan was planned out with Ariel, his spirit slave. Prospero created an issue, he threatened to punish his beloved child and to perform an act using his powers. When Ferdinand was getting ready to attack Prospero, Prospero had left him in a position to prove his love for Miranda. Prospero claimed that the love between them was growing too quickly thus, ruining Prospero’s plan.Prospero cared for his daughter with all his heart and because of their previous experiences, they grew closer upon one another and Prospero would do anything just to not see his daughter get hurt in any way shape or form.

A successful father/daughter relationship is key in order to be mutually beneficial. Prospero creates a positive and loving environment for him and his daughter Miranda. Prospero communicates with Miranda gently and fondly as she is his daughter. Prospero is also thankful for Miranda as she helped Prospero survive after his exile. “You kept me going. Your smile helped me through that terrible time.” after Prospero’s exile, Prospero was left with nothing but a boat some food water and books. Prospero was devastated and in deep determination for revenge but Miranda kept her father strong. Prospero also uses courteous idioms such as “my dear one” and “cherubim.” Prospero also soothes Miranda when she has a concern as Prospero uses affectionate, humane language towards Miranda. Unlike Miranda, Prospero uses bitter and adamantine dialogue towards Caliban, Prospero’s slave as he is harsh with Caliban “Slave Caliban! Thou Earth!” Caliban and Prospero have a shaky relationship, therefore, making their relationship parasitism as Prospero benefits from Caliban’s knowledge about island and Caliban only acts as a slave which differs from Prospero's relationship with his daughter. Prospero uses affectionate language with Miranda which concludes with a robust relationship between father and daughter.
