Thank you, Dr. Adamian, for sharing your knowledge and personal experience with research. I remember taking a class with Dr. Adamian where I learned about critical race theory (CRT). I love how she mentioned that she doesn't like to engage in research that contradicts CRT (such as using problematic language or not honoring the participants in the study). I believe that aligns with her values as both a scholar and an educator, ensuring that research is ethical, inclusive, and grounded in respect for the communities it engages with.

I found Dr. Adamian interview to be very useful. Dr. Adamian mentioned a book "Pedagogy of Oppressed" by Paulo Freire and how she read it 7 times, which makes me wanna to take a look. Dr. Adamian mentioned that in her research she disliked how the participants were not being honored or recognized. Another reason she disliked research was when there were problematic language/studies which can lead to bias. Towards the end, I really liked Dr. Adamian advice when she talked about how language has a crucial role and how writing is an act of love, which I had never thought of writing to be called that way. Overall, I found Dr. Adamian advice to help for the future.

Thank you Dr. Adamian for sharing about your research, your insights and your advice! I enjoyed learning about your research and how your lens of critical race theory and humanizing pedagogy helps you in the process of your research. I value your dedication on justice and creating democratic classrooms. It's impactful to hear about multilayered studies like yours and how it is participatory action research. Having teachers and students be actively participating is providing inclusion to students who usually are only "studied". I am now more interested in learning about humanizing methodologies, as well as transforming oppressive policy or practice in classrooms. When you mentioned your careful attention to details like "who is missing" it made me more reflective to the types of methods I practice in my own teaching. Lastly, thank you for the advice on carefully choosing the words we use in our research. It reminds me of the power of words and how it can shape the process of finding information.

I loved how much Dr. Adamian cares about language choice and bias in research questions and studies. I think this really expresses a level of care that not enough people possess in the research environment. I found it really impactful when she mentioned that part of her research process involves asking who is not being included and why, and who IS being included and why. I loved hearing about how her current use of research is to better herself in the classroom, not just to collect and publish data on participants.

I especially appreciated that she challenged traditional roles of teachers as experts and students as research subjects. This is exactly what I picture when I think of a "democratic school." I agree with Dr. Adamian's view that education should foster liberation, equity, and radical transformation. Her advice to pay close attention to the language of your selected research question, is sound advice as the language used can deeply change the meaning of the research.

Your interview was inspiring on so many levels, Dr. Adamian, as you made it a point to view research through the lens of Critical Race Theory. I was deeply moved when you said that you look for what groups are not being represented or misrepresented in the research, which groups are overrepresented, and why. This resonated with me because I live through this every day when I think about how few educators share my racial background. I have worked in Southern and Northern California and at various school sites over my 20+ years in education. Sadly, one fact remains: diversity is severely lacking. It has been six decades since the Civil Rights Act was passed, yet I can count on one hand how many Black teachers and or administrators I currently work with. It's easier to point out social injustices for personal gain than to take steps to remedy the disparities actively. Lastly, your parting words that our research is an act of love will serve as a reminder whenever I feel discouraged or like giving up.

I really appreciate that you put your heart into your work instead of just trying to produce something to further your career. I love the idea of participatory action research and including the students, because I can see how building those relationships and engaging the students instead of "studying them" can really have a positive impact on the results of one's research. I also appreciate your insight about using "to what extent" instead of setting a limit within your research question. This has really reframed my way of looking at my research questions.

Humanizing pedagogy and teacher-student participatory action research highlight the importance of collaboration and co-creation in educational research. Using critical race theory and humanizing methodologies helps identify whose voices are included or excluded, and how systemic barriers affect learning. Approaching research and writing as acts of care and reflection can make the process both transformative and healing, while also supporting meaningful changes in educational practice. This approach emphasizes the value of elevating students’ lived experiences and using research to address inequities in schools. It also encourages educators to continuously reflect on and improve their own teaching practices while engaging in justice-centered work.
