In the span of 19 years, Nueva Ecija has lost almost a thousand hectares of humid primary forest. From 2021, it has experienced a 3% decrease in tree cover since 2000, which is equivalent to a 3.11Mt of CO₂e emissions, with General Tinio being responsible for most of the tree cover loss. One of the reasons behind the tree loss may be due to fires that are more common in mid-February, this makes up the 58ha of tree cover loss in Nueva Ecija from 2002-2021. There was a significant loss of trees in 2016, 17 hectares of tree cover loss to forest  fires. From the beginning of the year up until the 17th of November, there have been 415 VIIRS (visible infrared imaging  radiometer suite) alerts, and 3.1% of them were high confidence alerts. There’s also been about 3,000 deforestation alerts, which covers 38ha of forest and 41% of the alerts were of high confidence.
