Netiquette is just as important as normal etiquette is. It is vital because communication online is normally non-verbal. Netiquette establishes rules so that people can communicate in a polite and respectful way. It helps make the internet safe for everyone.

-Content is everything.
It is important to make sure you proofread your message before you hit send. When talking to professors, bosses, and peers, make sure you portray yourself professionally. You want to present your best self. Pay attention to grammar and spelling. The way you e-mail someone will effect the impression they make of you. If you present yourself professionally, people will respect you more.

Content is key. This netiquette is extremely important to teach students because professors and bosses form an opinion based on the way a student frames an e-mail. Many students think that e-mail is less formal and not as important than letters and in-person confrontations. Using proper spelling and grammar, and framing an e-mail correctly shows intelligence and professionalism.

-Remember the human.
When communicating with one another online, make sure you respect and treat them with kindness. Since you are not interacting face-to-face with the other person, you have to be careful with what you say and how you say it. Anyone can misinterpret something if it's over the internet. Misinterpretation is common when communicating online because you cannot see the persons facial expressions or gestures. All you have are words.

Technology has advanced and continues to rapidly take over society. Nowadays, many people own smart phones and have social media accounts. Since technology is so integrated into our culture, cyber bullying becomes a huge issue. A lot of people have experienced harassment or teasing online. I chose this netiquette because students should be aware of other peoples feelings. Everyone has their own opinions, but if you think that your opinion is offensive, then you should not express it. You need to be courteous to others.

It is important to teach your students about respect, especially when using technology. Some people think it's acceptable to insult someone, or bully them online because they are hidden behind a screen. I will teach this netiquette to my future students. I would create a lesson plan involving cyber bullying. I would have the students split up into groups of 4, and have them come up with their own cyber bullying situation. They would present their one minute "act" to the class. After every group has presented, I will then have an open discussion on cyber bullying and answer any comments or questions they have.

After explaining, I will have conversations between people on the board that I had created. There will be some examples of flame wars and others that are the proper netiquette of flaming. As each conversation comes on the board I will ask the students to discuss at their table whether it is good netiquette or not.
