I see my top 5 values influencing my life in 5-10 years by bringing me a lot of success and making me be proud of the person I have become. I plan on always being surrounded by my family and that is why they are my number one value. I have always been very family oriented and I do not see that changing over the years. They have helped to shape me into the person and I am today and they motivate me to be a better person and be successful in life. My second value is thankfulness and the way I see this affecting me in the future is by appreciating everything that I am surrounded by and looking at everything that I have in my life. I have always been very thankful for everything that I have and I do not see that changing over the years if anything I see it growing. Growth is my third value and I see this truly helping me in the future. If you are not growing as a person you are not taking advantage of the opportunities that come your way and I plan to continue to grow and become a better person over the years. Responsibility is my fourth value and the way I see this helping me in the future is just to remember to stay on top of what I have to do and not lose sight of it all. I know that if I want to be successful I need to make responsible choices that will better my future and I plan to work on that more. My last value is friendship because I believe that you always need people in your life to lift you up and be able to rely on them. Some of my favorite memories in college have been because of my friends and I can not wait to see the friendships I have built after 5-10 years. Of my 5 values the most central long term is Family because my family provides all of these values and they are my main support group and I know I can rely on them for anything.

Normally when I write I tend to first look at the prompt and analyze what it is asking me to do. I normally do not plan out what I am going to talk about however I think that is something I should do more often to help me stay on track of getting my point across. I will then start on my introduction.

In my experience writing helps to express your thoughts and what you are trying to show. It helps get what you are thinking across to a different perspective. I think that a lot of problems arise when there is miscommunications and I think that writing and saying what is on your mind is a very good way to let others knowing what you are thinking and feeling. A good writer in my opinion is able to get there point across and helps to open other people's mindsets and gives them a new perspective. They are able to do this by bringing points up that no one had thought about and broadening someone's mindset. Good writing is also able to create a community where people feel they can relate to what you are saying on a personal level and feel they can connect with you. I had not considered writing as an email or text but when you do these things you are writing what you are feeling and need in that moment.

Previous Writing Experience

A previous writing experience that I had that has remained memorable to me were my college essays. I think the reason they have stayed with me is because I was able talk about what is important me and the experiences that I have gone through that have helped shape me into the person I am today. The beginning of the writing process for my essays was a bit of a struggle because I was unsure of what to include and what not to include. It felt like there was a lot of pressure relying on this one essay and my future depended on these essays. Once I began to get the flow of what I should and should not include it became a little easier. Like I have mentioned in previous work something that I enjoy about writing is the fact that I am able to express myself as a person and these essays allowed me to do so. An issue I found however with these essays is that they are very vague and there is so much that can be said but you are constrained to a certain amount of words which made it difficult. I remember I would go off and just start writing about my life and what I had gone through and later realizing that I was over 500 words. I would then have to go back and delete sentences and tweak my wording to get my point across but I felt it did not give the full effect of what I was trying to say. Like mentioned it was a lot of pressure for an essay to have and it was basically you trying to sum up your life in 500 words and having the Office of Admissions judge your writing and see whether or not you were worthy enough to come to their school. My family made a big difference in my writing because even though they were included in my essays I would still ask them to look over my work and see if what I had was good or not.

10% Happier Podcast

I really enjoyed this source because I enjoy listening to podcasts and I feel that the information that is brought up resonates more with people versus reading an article or a book. Some compelling arguments were when she was talking about being around her baby and how her baby was fascinated with the lights changing color I believe and she found herself on her phone and she thought to herself one day she is not going to be fascinated with lights changing so she better appreciate and take in that moment. I also like how she said she did not want her baby to think of human interactions as people just being on their phones. She also limits her daughter to screen time so she only uses the phone to call her grandparents. I felt that she built the argument well because she was not scolding people for using their phones all the time but was rather saying what's the point in always being on your phone. Another good point I felt she made was that when people are on their phones they are not able to take in that moment. We have also gotten addicted to checking our phones. She brought up how when she would look at her phone or her emails she would not feel a sense of happiness coming from what she was seeing so what was the point? I am guilty of always checking my phone even though I know I do not have any new notifications. After high school I noticed I went MIA with people and it felt good, even though I still used social media I try to be present in the moment more. I feel happier because I would not post on twitter but I found myself going on it and I would see people's tweets or mentions that I did not want to see but felt forced to stay following them because I did not want to have drama in my life and it would not bring me happiness if anything it would annoy and upset me. But I honestly could care less and I removed twitter and I feel better and drama free.

I think my strongest parts of my paper were when I was describing the writing piece and what I enjoyed about it and what influenced me to write about my topic. I think I could have elaborated more in general and answering the questions with more depth. I felt that I did reflect on my writing piece but I could have done more. I will go back and add more information and include maybe a little backstory on my writing piece. I know that my writing piece was not too strong so I want to improve on that. I think I got stuck on us having to determine how we had to reach our audience and what caused us to write our piece. I think adding more of a description to the questions even though some of them were self explanatory just having more clarification is always helpful.

I think that the research for my project went good because I was able to find good news sources. However, something that was difficult was finding scholarly sources since this movement was recent. Something that was helpful about the annotated bibliography was that I was able to see an outline for my project before I was done with it and the annotated bibliography was helpful in figuring out what I would use the sources for and the importance they had to prove my point. I think the best part of my project is just being able to provide my audience with more insight and prove why teachers are so important and should deserve more recognition. I got stuck on how to combine both viewpoints like the people who believe and stand for Red for Ed versus the people who believe and stand for Purple for Parents. I decided on my topic and then began to look for sources. I also made sure that I had knowledge on the topic since I had never heard of the movement before. I wish that I would have better managed my time and not turned in assignments late. I do not think that I prioritized this project and that was a big mistake.
