Headphone clarification/security clarificaiton

We need to be clear that over-the ear headphones count as well. This includes not wearing them on their neck/top of head.

Also, we think it would be helpful (especially with new security), that when a teacher has texted/emailed about a cell phone, that they come to the door, and just ask for the student and their bags for a few minutes and discuss the reason outside the room. Also, not to mention which teacher/staff member had reported it to avoid a conflict cycle in the classroom and to avoid a larger interruption to learning.

Seems as though school policy for headphones/earbuds/airpods contradicts district policy.

BOE policy states" *Earbuds may be used with district-provided chromebook or computer during instructional time at discretion of the teacher"

When googling "earbuds" both wireless and wired earbuds are options.

English dept questions/concerns:

What will happen to kids that constantly break the rules. What are we doing with kids that refuse to not have phone. Will suspensions go up (some feel that admin not following through with current expectations).
Do we have enough security to actually pickj up tech when we call (some never show up)
The speech is a bit too long. (Also, needs to be clear that tech should already be put away, so the wording still needs to be fixed).
Can we add a reason for not having cell phones (research begind it or social/emotional reason).

Love this! What's the system for gathering work? Will it be in IC that they are in there? We like that they have to do work. It needs to be clear it's not a "fun" place.

We'd love to know what the restorative part looks like. I.E, if that student is in the reset room due to something that happened in our classroom, how is the damage repaired before they return to our classroom? How can we support the Reset Room?

How would a lab be done?/or ALC packets available so students have something to do even if they feel they "cannot" do what's provided without being in class? Maybe a crate with some additional extention work, so the student isn't sleeping.

-What is the restorative aspect?

-If a teacher is running the study hall, what is the process if the student is not following the expectations?

-What is the process if a student is sent out of more then one class in a day?

-What if a student doesn't have materials to complete the classwork? Would be additional resources so a student must be productive vs. sleeping?

-What would be the max number in there? (is there a cap?)

A floating location seems like it could be a scheduling nightmare & spend more time walking from location to location (escort scholar to unit office, then to classroom to get work, then to SSH room, then back to class).

Can we streamline with a "checkmark form" that goes with the scholar to the security guard/admin that says "10 minute break" vs "no return to class" and "teacher will follow through with call home/detention/referral" or "admin should follow through" depending on the situation.

We don't want it to turn into a hang out place for scholars so we need strict protocols/procedures for what is happening in the room and a plan for when scholars are not following those expectations.

Saying that this is a place for "students who need a 5-10 minute break" doesn't make a lot of sense. Five to ten minutes goes by QUICKLY. How is admin going to check-in with the student, call home, take the student to an SSH room (which changes every period...will you know where to go?), and sit them down with some work within 5-10 minutes?? The timing will not work like you think it will. These students will miss a LOT of class if this process is followed like has been outlined.

We spend so much time talking about social /emotional health of our students - to confront them with a "script" every day about their phones does not seem to align with promoting positive mental health for all students. It's very forced and robotic.

More scholars are making use of smart watches to text, etc. This should be the focus (along with cell phones) for the reboot.
