In western Maryland in 1755, General Braddock led a force of 1500 soldiers out of Ft. Cumberland with the intent to oust the French from Ft. Duquesne. When nearing the fort Braddock and his troops were ambushed by 200 French troops and 600 Native American allies. Most soldiers were in such panic that they acted in cowardice, but the officers behaved gallantly and encouraged their men. The British suffered 450 deaths and 500 wounded including Braddock who later died.

Cason Harrist, Teddy Cook
