There has long been heated contention as to whether technology provides more benefits than harm in the school context. Students often subscribe to the belief that handphones are useful learning tools, allowing them to research information quickly, take photos of notes, and communicate about schoolwork efficiently. Parents, however, view the device with concern and complain that handphones are cannibalising their children’s time from studies through games, social media and distractions. Schools, on the other hand, find themselves straddling between these two views, recognising both the educational value and the potential misuse of such devices. In spite of the myriad of opinions, banning handphones entirely would deprive students of a powerful and relevant learning tool in the modern world. As such, handphones should not be banned in schools.

In today’s digital age, smartphones have become an essential tool for students, fitting into the palm of their hands like a portable library. Banning handphones in schools would be a step backward, as these devices can support learning, improve communication, and help students stay organised. I believe handphones should not be banned, because when used responsibly, they are powerful tools rather than distractions. This essay seeks to explore the advantages of doing away with the handphoone policy

It has always been a heated debate whether to ban handphones in school. This debate does not just occur on debating competitions or general meeting,it exists in daily life too.

[perspective 1] Students, especially teenage students, are one of the most affected group.According to many peers, the decision would be one that could cause distress to people. "It makes it hard to communicate as we have no idea how to reach out to people." said one student. Another mentioned that if handphone bans occur, the only way to counter it is if the school provides more convienience on pld's or school amenities.

[perspective 2 ]Parents,on the other hand, thinks that this is an excellent idea. They claim that handphones, while being extremely useful, had also caused their children to forsaken their responsibilities. "My child have not been sleeping well due to always being on her handphone late at night." said one sadistic mother. A father of two claimed that his children had been ignoring their homework, which led to them rapidly dropping in their grades. This raises his and many other parents' concerns.

[stand] Therefore, it proves that handphone bans are a better choice than not, which leads to the handphone ban being a sensible choice.

During recess they would want to take a break from lessons and use their handphones to relieve themselves from the stress of studying.[P1]

However, parents view the device as detrimental to their childrens' academic learning and believe the usage of handphones should not be permitted on school grounds.[P2]

Schools also have the belief that handphones are a distraction to learning and student improvement. Since handphones are already restricted to being used only during recess or lunch, schools would want to eliminate the rest of time where handphones are allowed, to improve student conducivity.[P3]

Therefore, I believe handphone usage should be banned in school since even though there are benefits to handphone use, the negative impacts imposed onto students outweigh those benefitss.[STAND]

They argue that banning handphones would limit their freedom and ability to use technology responsibly. On the other hand, parents worry that handphones distract students from lessons, encourage cheating, and expose them to cyberbullying. While students see convenience and connection, parents see disruption and risk. Considering these points, handphone usage should be banned in schools to ensure a safer and more focused learning environment.

This topic brings paramount tension between two parties that have differ opinions and there are definitely pros and cons in it it. Students subscribed to belief that handphones are a pivotal part of them and they should not be separated. This is because it provides flexibility. Parrents view the device as monsters that stole their precious children from them, causing addiction in children and thus cannibalising time from studies. The school view straddle between them but eventually tilted towards parrents due to the inattentive and lack of focus during lesson periods due to phone addiction. In spite of the myraid of opinions, allowing the use of handphone in schools seem to have more cons than what the school can manage.

Technology has many benefits, making many things and sources more accessible, such as online shopping, connecting with friends and peers from even miles away conveniently, and many schools have started giving students online work to do instead of its physical copy, with students also taking notes mostly on their digital devices. But even with all these pros, there are many cons that come with technology as well, particularly in the school context. Students subscribe to the belief that handphones are a necessity in school, as it makes it much more convenient to take down the homework assigned to them and write down notes, and they can also play games and scroll social media during their recess and break times to pass the time.

This is because it provides flexibility. [Perspective 2] Parrents view the device as monsters that stole their precious children from them, causing addiction in children and thus cannibalising time from studies. The school view straddle between them but eventually tilted towards parrents due to the inattentive and lack of focus during lesson periods due to phone addiction. [Stand] In spite of the myriad of opinions, allowing the use of handphone in schools seem to have more cons than what the school can manage. As such, handphones should be banned during curriculum time.

Handphones should not be banned in schools as they play an important role in supporting students’ learning and daily responsibilities. When used appropriately, handphones allow students to access online learning resources, conduct quick research, and manage their schedules more efficiently, making learning more effective and engaging. In addition, handphones provide a reliable means of communication between students and their parents, which is especially important during emergencies or unexpected changes in after-school arrangements. Allowing handphones in schools also helps students develop self-discipline and digital responsibility, as they learn to use technology wisely under clear rules and guidance. Therefore, instead of banning handphones, schools should encourage responsible usage to maximise their educational and practical benefits.

Parents are also concerned that students may misuse handphones for gaming or social media during school hours while students believe that handphones should not be banned as they can be useful. Handphones allow students to research information quickly and also provide a sense of security as students can contact their parents in case of emergencies or when staying back in school.

In my opinion, handphones should not be banned in schools. Instead, clear rules like phone usage in specific areas or specific times should be enforced to allow students to benefit from handphones without letting them interfere with their studies.

[Hook] The biggest distraction in school is not classmates, its the phone in students' pockets. [Perspective 1] Students believe that handphones are very beneficial as it helps with academics and for relaxtion. After a long tiring day at school students just wants to use their phone to scroll through the internet. Students belief handphones can help with studies as whenever they need help for a question, they can just ask AI such as Chatgpt or Deepseek. [Perspective 2] While students think this, Parents think otherwise. Parents are against students having phones because they can be distracting and affect mental health. In school, phones often interrupt lessons, making it harder for students to concentrate and keep up with their work. Constant notifications and the temptation to use social media can reduce attention and lower academic performance. In addition, excessive phone use can negatively impact students’ mental well-being, leading to stress, anxiety, and lack of sleep. Parents worry that spending too much time on phones may harm students’ emotional health and overall development.

With easy access to fast food and sugary drinks, unhealthy eating habits have become increasingly common. As Gordon Ramsay, a world-famous chef, once said, “Food should make you feel good, not guilty.” This raises an important question: should teenagers pay attention to their diet?

Being healthy has many ways, for example, dieting, excersing and much others. For teenagers, we are much active than other age groups and excersising is like lifting a feather. Dieting however is much harder as some have not much choices as we have homemade foods others have cooked for us. Dorothy day, a social activist and co-founder of the Catholic Worker Movement, once said, "Food for the body is not enough. There must be food for the soul." Dieting for the body gives us nutrients, meal plans and physical health. However, Food for the soul means there is enjoyment, satisfaction and motivation to continue dieting with more results such as more energy muscl gain and more. Therefore teenagers should pay attention to their diet.

That being said, a survey revealed that more than 1 in 5 youths ages 12 to 19 have obesity and that those who do have an increased change on health related issues which would be extremely detrimental to them even as they transition into adulthood. So, while some guardians say that youths are growing kids who need their food, health experts opion that it is paramount for teenagers to pay attention to their diets. At times, food can also feel comforting, and as George Bernard Shaw, a famous writer and playwright, once said, “There is no love sincerer than the love of food.” However, poor eating habits can become a silent and corpulent problem that affects energy and focus. Therefore, teenagers should pay much more attention to their diets because healthy food is important for growth, energy, and strength.

From nutrients to energy, food provides a lot of benefits to everyone. Virginia Woolf, a professional writer, once said, "one cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well." Many teenagers believe that it is okay to diet but in fact, it could potentially harm their mental health. I strongly believe that teenagers should not be feeling insecure or ashamed of their bodies. Therefore, they should not pay attention to their diet and should be free to eat whatever they like.

While it can bring many benefits such as better communication, convenience and innovation, it must be used wisely and responsibly. As Alan Kay once said, “The best way to predict the future is to invent it.” This shows that our future depends on how we build and use technology today, and it is our responsibility to ensure it is used to improve the world, where the future lies solely in our hands.

Conclusion: Thus, for all the reasons previously stated, I believe that technology in art should be allowed. It provides artists with ideas, helping them with their creative block. It also provides artists with tools to help them discover new forms of their art, as well as publicise their art to help them build a name for themselves. John Lasseter, the American film director and former chief creative officer of Pixar, once said, "The art challenges the technology, and the technology inspires the art." Art and technology work hand in hand, an endless looping cycle where one inspires the other.

Conclusion: Many will argue that technology has been the main reason of mental problems such as depression, anxiety and more. While this may be true, it is also critical that we acknowledge the fact that technology serves as an escape more than it serves as the abyss. In fact, many teenagers were saved from mental problems because technology was an escape for them. They hang out on social media, play games, listen to music. It may seem simple, yes, but it is a vital part of their daily life that keeps them going. Just as Matt Mullenweg,American web developer and entreprenuer once said,"Technology is best when it brings people together.."Therefore, technology is not detrimental to teenager's well-being.

Without constant access to handphones, children can better focus on their studies and build healthier real life relationships. Christian Lous Lange, a prominent Norwegian historian, teacher, and political scientist, once said, “Technology is a useful servant but a dangerous master.” Technology should support and assist us, not control our lives.

In conclusion, technology can be harmful when it is overused or relied on without responsibility. As Steve Jobs once said, “Technology is nothing. What’s important is that you have faith in people.” While technology is powerful, its true value depends on how people choose to use it and the impact it has on society. Today, many individuals allow technology to control their routines, reduce real-life interactions, and negatively affect their well-being. This shows that when people place too much dependence on technology, its harmful effects become evident. Therefore, I agree that technology is harmful, as its misuse has caused more negative consequences than benefits in daily life.

Should technology be prohibited from youths?

Thus, technology which is ever changing and developing should not be prohibited from youths as it is useful but in moderation. A famous American rapper and dancer, MC Hammer, once said that "Technology is important because it creates the future. We're able to be a part of the 'next' and create things that don't exist." Therefore, youths who often have creative minds and ideas could use technology to create something new into the world, they could be the next inventor like Thomas Edison. Technology can be useful, it is just how you use it that is the issue.

Question: Should using social media be normalised in teenagers' lives?

In conclusion, social media is a platform that can be very fun to use when used appropriately. However, if used irresponsibly, social media can be a very dangerous place that could cause issues in mental health and what not. As Jay Baer, a famous book writer, once said, "Content is fire, social media is gasoline." Therefore, i believe that social media should not be normalised in teenagers' lives as the negative consequences outweighs the benefits and thrill teenagers' may get when using it.

However, when used responsibly, technology actually enhances learning by providing quick access to information and interactive tools that support understanding. Albert Einstein, best known for developing the theory of relativity, once attributed, “It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.” This reminds us that the issue is not technology itself, but how it is used.

In conclusion, I think that students should be allowed to use AI in their schoolwork as long as it is used responsibly. AI can help students understand much more difficult topics, enhance their learning, and save time, but it should not replace their own thinking. If students use AI as a support tool instead of copy and pasting answers, it can be very helpful towards them. As Jane Haynie, an American former professional golfer, once said, “AI is a tool, not a shortcut.” Therefore, schools should teach students how to use AI wisely rather than banning it completely for students.

Question: does technology make the society lazier or is it more effective towards the society?

Technology does not make society lazy , but it changes how people use their energy. While it can be used for convenience and reduce physical effort, it also increases efficiency, productivity, and access to knowledge in ways that were impossible difficult to accomplish before. Before hand, it took hours for people to complete some things and now, it can be completed within minutes, allowing people to focus on their creativity.Tim O'Rilley, the tech publisher and think behind O'Rilley Media , once said , ''Technology shapes what we can do , and not what we want to do.'' This showws that technology also helps society work smarter instead of harder, improves communication, and supports progress in education, healthcare, and everyday life. Therefore, technology is more effective than harmful. It becomes a tool for advancement rather than laziness, depending on how individuals and society choose to use it.

It provides us with a sizeable amount of benefits, including convienience, leisure and communication. As Bill Gates, an American business magnate and software developer who co-founded Microsoft, once said, "The advance of technology is based on making it fit in so that you don't really even notice it, so it's part of everyday life." This shows just how technology plays such an immense role on a daily basis to the point that it has become a natural thing for us to rely on.
