It all began in 1945 , during a street party. Legend has it that a group of excited (and perhaps a little drunk) young people began throwing tomatoes at a parade. The prank became a tradition, despite facing resistance from the authorities.

In China, the New Year is too different then ours. Chinese New Year is a very beautiful, colorful and shiny event. This celebration is known by many of their traditions, like: cleaning the house, decorating with red items like lanterns and couplets, gathering for a family reunion dinner with symbolic foods, giving red envelopes (hongbao) with money to children, watching lion and dragon dances, and setting off firecrackers to ward off evil spirits. The celebration lasts for 15 days, concluding with the Lantern Festival, and involves visiting relatives, sharing well wishes, and wearing new red clothes for good luck.

As you know, in China there is a myth which consists on a monster called Nian. In Chinese New year, children do their own Nian, with junk and creativity. For the workshop, you will get inside China and you will get to do your own Nian too. The material you are using is some junk placed above the table and lots of imagination!

This event has a difference than the others, Venice Carnival happens not only on streets, but in canals water too. The opening ceremony often features a floating paredes or water show on the Grand Canal or Rio di Cannaregio.

For centuries, Venetians wore masks not just for Carnival, but for daily life to hide identity, class, or behavior.

This led to mask-related crimes, so the wearing of masks was eventually banned outside Carnival season by law in the 18th century.
