Today our task was to plan and create a TV ad which we will be dil, ing. We done this by brainstorming and doing contextual research. By the end of the day we finalised an idea for our Tv advert which is for a Running Trainer. Before the day finished we also created a story board, and also deconstructed and analysed a popular asics running shoe advert. We also finished writing our script.

However we did get a few good clips we may use for a final advert. Tomorrow we will be going out again and this time coming back with some good footage.

Today we went out to film our Trainer commercial, we went to the car park across the road from the college. Luckily we managed to complete all of our filming and editing before it was time to finish. So far our finalised advert is in my opinion very good and came out even better then i expected, although we may need to add some audio sound effects underneath the music.

There was some trouble though today because as soon i arrived into class i was too our group was going to be split into two, and that me and sunil would be working together. Because of this we had to rewrite and re think our plans fro filming as well as changing the location. At first we thought it would be a good idea to go to the roof of the harvey centre, as this would be a good edgy urban place to film. But about 20 minutes after we started filming we were caught by security and had to be escorted back into the shopping centre. After this we headed to Mecca car park where we completed the filming. Although we did have to start again i think it came out even better and am happy with our quality of work.

Evaluation

A1

My role in the production, other then assisting in editing
and obviously creating the over all idea I was the actor in the ad which in
this case was the runner. As the advert
is about sports and running, we needed someone who was into sports and suited
the image of a sporty person, which was me.
Other then that, both me and Sunil both thought of ideas and contributed
towards the final idea. The team, being Sunny, and I, definitely worked well
together. For example other then the fact we get along which made it easier for
us to co-operate, we naturally had good chemistry. Good chemistry in being we
gave ideas when brainstorming and got well involved. Everyone did contribute
within their defined role, which for me was acting and help in editing ect. For
me I got really involved especially in the acting and filming, as I wanted the
advert to be the best it could possibly be.

In my opinion, not much of the filming could really improved,
as I believe we done the best we could and I am happy with what we produced.
The only thing I would say that could be improved would be the definition of
the camera. This was because even though the quality was good it could have
been better. But other then that I thought it went well. If I had the
opportunity to repeat the filming exercise again I would have planned more
before hand, this is because we had some trouble as our group as there were two
other members that left, leaving me and sunny to have to re write the script
and other planning in preparation for filing. When we went out to film we did
have the main narrative but most of the filming was improvised. There fore some
planning would have been ideal, even though the ad came out well in the ad.

In my opinion I believe we did not conduct ourselves
professionally, but more went with the flow and took it as it came. This links
back to the fact that we didn’t have time to rewrite the script and re do the
planning after two members of our group left. But even though we just went with
it I still think it couldn’t have gone better as it came out even better then
expected. Who knows maybe if we did actually plan more it wouldn’t have been
good, meaning when we got to he location we were in the moment and brainstorming
off of the top of our heads actually worked
out better for us.

There wasn't that much quality of sound because we used a song for most of the advert, however we did use the original sound of me stepping up the stairs, we done this by increasing the sound in that scene. We also recorded some dialogue which we used at the end which went like; 'I am what i am, Reebok'. We inserted this when that particular text was inserted in the ad, so the voice was reading the text off of the ad. To improve i think we should've thought of some more dialogue to use, maybe some narrative or over all just more sound effects. The camera angles where the camera was following the man, and the first person view i think were the most effective shots. This is because the first person view gives the perspective of the running man, showing what its like for him. When the camera is behind the running man it gives the effect of someone following him, and the fact that the camera isn't sturdy nor on a tripod links to the fact its urban and not professional. Also sending the message that the is particular shoe is not just for professionals but for normal people as well. one of the shots that we actually took out was the end clip, which was of me running past the camera. Even though it was a good camera angle it did not fit within the flow and theme of the rest of the ad and previous shots. Which was a sort of shaky, edgy feel.

The limitations of using a single camera during a shoot are that other tun the fact it took much longer, we also had to retake multiple shots which made nit more difficult for us. Whether as if we had several cameras we would have been able to shoot different angles at the same time in one scene, rather then stopping and getting into different positions to get different angles. Having more cameras on the shoot as i said would have made it a lot quicker and a lot easier, we would have taken the int e we used to change positions to find different angles in the room we were filming in to catch different angles and shots at the same time.

Types of programmes that use single camera opposed to multi cameras are things like The peep show or Zoey 101, and even old cop shows. This is because its normally when tim companies have allow budget. either that or just want a shaky wobbly feel like the blair witch project. When making this production video learnt a lot, i learnt how long it takes to actually make such a short section of film. I think this has informed and will help and prepare me for future references as it has shown me what film making is really like.

Me and Sunny communicated well, as i said we already get along so coming up with ideas and communicating with each other was easy for us. We recorded our ideas on sheets of paper and used methods such as spider diagrams and taking notes when brainstorming. i think these methods were very successful, this is because the particular skills we used helped a lot to develop a good ideas that turned out really well after putting them into action.

Today we poked at stop motion, and after researching different types of famous animators me and my group, which is me and Sunil, done some stop motion of our own. We first brainstormed ideas using a spider diagram, for example whether the animation is going to be about sports and if so what sport, or dancing ext. Finally we settled on golf, as we thought this would be interesting and look good in stop motion. So after researching different gold camera angles for inspiration, we got to drawing. By the end of the day i managed to draw 12 pictures, which we put together using a camera and a special software on the computer. This is a picture of the half finished 1st drawing.

Which is similar to what we done yesterday but this time instead of hand drawing a picture over and over again we printed out an image and moved it around on a background. Making it a lot easier and faster to do. So after finalising on the idea of kick boxing, we found some images online which we though would be easy to move around and have fun with. After printing these images out as well as a Kickboxing studio background, we went to the animation room to create our short clip. Our finishd work is below.

Yesterday, we started to look at Tv Indents. A TV indent is the small animation or small clip of film which represents and advertises the particular channel it is on. For example if you were watching a show on itv, a small clip would be shown after and before the adverts and in-between the show. We are looking at TV indents because for our next assignment we will b creating one for something of our choice. We could either do it based on a TV show radios shows and more; with genres varying between sports and music. Me and my group, which consists of Me and Sunil, after brainstorming after what idea to use, we decided we are going to make an Indent for Drakes music label - OVO Sound. But before we could create our own, we needed to do some research of our own.

E4 is one of the more popular tv channels that have quite a big variety of different Idents for their channel that they have made over time. One e4 ident that i researched that i particularly liked starts off in a massive field filled with hills. Almost like a battle scene. Baring in mind that at this moment the key and grass is purple and the clouds area white, representing e4s iconic colours. it is raining purple, with purple thunder clattering down and suddenly to armies appear, on one side is the purple 4, and not he other is the white E, they charge to together dramatically yet humorously. The first 4 and the first E that might charge into each other and create E4s final purple and white logo. After the battle is finished after all the e4 logos are made and together the raining and the bad weather stops, and a light peers out of the sky to bring all the dead E4 soldiers' up to what you suspect is E4 'heaven'. Whilst all the logos are being summoned up to the sky you can see one e4 togo with a halo around its point of the 4 sitting on the cloud. That particular logo portraying an angel and being bigger and the main e4 logo. The hole plot of this little animation is pointless, but pointlessly funny and random, which is what most of the E4 indents are like which is what makes the channel unique.

Yesterday after me and Sunjay finally after finalising on our idea for an Ident, started to create it. First we found the logo we wanted to use, and then printed it out. Then we cut all the letters and symbols out form the back ground. We them took all the bits of paper to the animation room. When we got there we placed the back ground on the board and one by one took snaps of us adding each letter to the back ground using a s top motion software. The logo being Drakes OVO sound which is hi music label our TV Ident is based on. After we finished and rendered the video to watch it back we were happy with the result. So we put the video on our macs and will be editing it today. We will be adding music and maybe adding a bit of extra film using 3D objects i stop motion.

On October 16th, friday, me and Sunil headed to the animation room to add on to out stop motion ident. As i said before we were going to add some 3D animation and thats exactly what we done. First of all, after thinking of the idea of a man shooting a basketball into a hoop which links to drakes song 'jump man', we started to mould and create the man and basket ball hoop. After roughly an hour of moulding and shaping clay, we started setting the scene up, we put in a black board to use as the back ground and printed off a picture of a basketball court to use on the floor. We then started filming, and moving, and filming, and moving ect. This process took 1 hour and only came out to 14 seconds of footage. After we finished we put the filming onto the mac and started editing, we then added are original stop motion animation on the end of our clip to form our final piece of work.

Evaluation

Th name of our group, consisting of me and Sunil, is called A1. My roles throughout the production included, obviously assisting in brainstorming to actually find our finalised our idea ads well as other relents of planning, making the clay model of the man. Who was meant to portray Michael Jordan, as the idea was based on 'Jumpman' which is Michael Jordan's brand. This also links to drake as he made a song called Jumpman as he is in a partnership with him which what was our main concept which the ident was originally based on. Sunil worked on making the basketball hoop, i made the actual basketball.

Me and Sunil, like the other assignments, worked well together once again, this is because i believe a smaller group for me is more convenient. As well as the fact that we get along , and are good friends anyway. We both equally contributed interesting and helpful ideas that we both agreed were good. One thing w both noticed after finishing the product and reviewing it was that if we were to do it again what could be improved is the way we move the clay. By this i mean we were in rush when we actually made it, so when we played it back the ball didn't go directly in the way we wanted it to , instead it jogged a bit and the movements didn't look as as clean as we would have originally liked. If i did get the chance to re do the production i would definitely be nor careful , and spend more time in making it and moving the clay around. Another thing was the fact the basketballs shape slowly deformed each time we moved it, resulting in an oddly shaped red ball with black smudges (which were originally lines we drew on) on it.

Other then that i do believe we conducted ourself very professionally, as we thought of the ideas ourselves and unlike other productions that were made by other students, ours was actuality to do with Jumpman and Drakes OVO label which was what it was based on. Although there was no initial sound in the video itself, we did add the song 'Jumpman' as it relates to the video, which was very good quality and flowed well with the video.

Although we didn't learn anything in particular we did learn this kind of animation production does take a quite a lot of time, even if its just a small amount of video. Which is why next time we something like this again i will definitely take more time on it. I believe we communicated and recorded our ideas and the process of the making of the production well. The methods we used to do this were taking pictures, which we luton to the mac to use when analysing the process and steps it took to create the final video. To develop the ideas we firstly came u with we used general methods like taking notes and barnstorming, and eventually crossing off the scrap ideas only to be left with the idea which we both strongly agreed upon. In my opinion i believe these method did work well and were very effective as these types of techniques will help you conjure the best of ideas. Looking at the feedback from the questionnaires we gave out, people seemed to like it as the majority of people voted it very high. What people said they enjoyed most was the idea of the basketball being shot into the basket, especially as it link to Jump man and OVO

Here is an example of his work; This is a powerful image consisting of a large amount of children living homeless in the narrow terrace of 2 urban new york buildings. It represents that poverty isn't just in poor countries but is also a big problem in more rich parts of the world as well, in fact the amount of homeless children is disturbing. But the surprising reality of these pictures is what spreads awareness.

Our task, as a group, was to go out to the colleges surounding areas to take some pictures, this was an example of the result. The following pictures are a few of the snaps i managed to take.

Today we wen tout with our cameras once again, but this time used the shutter effect. Depending on the number of shutter per second on the camera results in either a fuzzy or crisp still picture of any moving objects. Below are some examples of still action shots i took of some of my college class mates playing football;

Ross Kemp, who is a well known documentarian, but more commonly known for acting in the soap opera eastenders, travels around the

world with the mic of sky one to face and find out about particular topics that trouble todays modern world, weather its Afghanistan or searching for pirates. He is the presenter of a very popular documentary show, which in this case the one i watched was an episode from the series Ross Kemp on Gangs, South London. This episode saw Kemp travel deep in to the south side of London in search of gangs, trying to create a relationship with a variety of different south London gang leaders to there fore talk and hold an interview with. This was to find out more about gang brutality and the lives of these gangsters. The programme is normally shown weekly hen a new season is released, but old episodes like annoy other shown are aired every now wand then on sky one. The length of the show is about 45 minutes to an hour depending if their are adverts. The narration of the show is shown in 3rd person, showing Ross Kemp referring to other people in the documentary who he interviews, or privately speaks to. Here is an image of of ross kemp speaking to the audience and involving them, in this particular scene he is evaluating the incident he just found out about. You can see here from the camera angle the rule of three is used here. You can also see the in the top left of the screen the 'Sky one' logo is advertised as this was the channel originally aired on.

It is objective, Ross kemp is dishing out hard evidence and facts, but also with opinions and different views from witnesses and people he interviews. Unlike some documentaries that use the 'fly on the wall' camera technique, this show uses straight up filmed interviews which is why Kemp has to gain trust with gang leaders before holding interviews with them. Music and sound effect are used depending on the circumstance of the situation, for example if the scene is more dramatic and upsetting, that type of music would be played quickly in the background to emphasise the emotion. The information given isn't for entertainment, and is more serious and formal as the episode is based crime and gang;s informing the world on the danger thousands of young teens face. The style of language Kemp uses even though factual, is easy to understand and quite simple to follow. This is because he talks directly to the camera which involves the viewer and drags the audience in as it is almost as if he s talking to you. The fact Kemp portrays the role of just being a fairly average guy also contributes to the level of understanding and relationship between him and the audience. The camera work used is very typical, it is usually the type of of filming used in a documentary; for example no hand held but steady, different kinds of long and close up shots and includes rule of thirds as seen below. In my opinion, the target audience for this particular episode would be primary teenagers. This is because kids 13-17 are interested and intrigued by crime and gang life, and will most likely fid this type of show interesting; inside south London gangs. Also i think it is aimed at people who might be thinking, or already are involved in gang brute;pity and crime to give them a real insight of how cruel it really is and warn them. Which is why this documentary is mostly educational on the most part.

The second Documentary i watched and am going to write about is titled 'What happens when you die?'. A documentary about 3 stories and 3 different people each going through near death experiences, how it affected them, and what really happens after you die. The BBC doumanatry was shown on National Geographic in December 2014. The Narration is from the third persons point of view, a voice narrating to people in the documentary. It is objective, meaning the doc consists of different peoples pinions, both from normal peoples personal experiences but also facts and evidence from experts such as as doctors. The interviews taken place and footage used does not consist of the the technique 'fly on the wall' but with properly constructed interviews, the doc also consists of reinacting certain experiences the 3 people went through using actors ect. As well as views and opinions, it does also contain good evidence and expert opinions to reinforce the content, which sort of creates a for and against argument of whether or not the after life does actually exist. For example one of the patients that had a near death experience would argue it wasn't his/her imagination but they actually went to the after life, and an expert would argue back that this was just a mere hallucination due to the brain reacting to the near death, and drugs. Although in one indecent, an actual doctor had a near death experience due to a seizure, and after recovering examined that due to his brains stab ability he could not of possibly imagined that, meaning the journey he went was actually a glimpse of the after life.

Music used in this documentary is in the appropriate setting toward the situation, depending on whether it is a serious or happy scene in the documentary. By this i mean when there is a more depressing themed scene such as a patient being terminally ill, sad music will be played and vice versa with happy situations. This documentary, even though entertaining is shown in a very serious and formal manner, which is understandably what you would expect as its main concept is based on innocent people a breathe away from death. Due to the fact 50% of the information given is from experts analysing and in finding out more about the particular situation also makes it a more formal and serious episode.

The type of language used is of a very wide vocabulary, this is mainly because obviously the majority of the interviewees were experts explaining and analysing what happened. But even though the language was very complex, the english and explanation used was very good, meaning it was very easy to understand. Some of the dialogue spoken was simple and easy to follow though, which was mostly coming from the normal people being interviewed that had been involved in the incidents.

The camera work was very conventional, by this i mean it was standard; being hand held, and steady obviously with a variety of different camera shots such as close up, mid close up ect. Speaking in generality, i think the target audience of this particular episode would be anyone who is curious about life after death as this documentary gives the viewers a an insightful glimpse of what might be waiting on then other side. This product has definitely be constrycted for, i would say, any person of the age 14 and over, as some of it may be found disturbing by younger audiences.

Our next task was to research and learn more about magazine covers, i chose to look at Life magazine. After a fair amount of Contextual Research we were told we were going to be writing a Life magazine picture essay. A picture essay is essentially a series of pictures which create a story, along with a short analysis explaining the narrative of the images. Below is an example of a Life magazine picture essay which someone has done. This particular essay is titled The deadly overdose: 'You got to fight it, Billy!', hence the title it is literally about a man, Billy, who is fighting a drug overdose.

Photo essay planning:

How many pictures? Probably 6-8.

Techniques? Rule of third, different angles and shots.

Where? Picutures will be taken either around near my house, or the harlow college area.

Composition? Framing and 3rds.

Pictures will be of me or one of my friends portraying several different acts, for example one image could be of me doing a hobby, and another could be my job. These could also be related to sport. The images will create a story. The theme of my Photo essay is football, with the narrative being a selection of pictures of my friend playing the sport. This series of images will appeal to anyone who enjoys and are a supporter or football and or other sports, the pictures will also be up to a high standard so anyone who is interested in photography would find intriguing. I arranged with my friend to command be my subject this saturday, all arrangements are sorted and i am ready to go out and do it. With him, i intend to shoot as many good quality pictures as possible but only select 6-8 pictures to use in my final photographic essay as i think this is a suitable amount of images to include in my photo essay. The photograph techniques that i have learnt and will be using in my shoot consist of the rule of third, framing, along with a variety of different camera angles and shots.my final images will be presented in black and white, not full colour; I am doing this because i believe that black and white adds more effect. I am going to present mum images through a particular order which will create a short story, this will be placed on a white white background accompanied by some analysis.
