This presents a significant challenge for those of us at this level, especially when we have to also undo racial stereotypes and bias that is shown towards us as teachers. If we do not feel safe in our own districts, buildings, and classrooms, how then can we be expected to continue to create the academic counterspaces that are desired? To no surprise, we do it anyway--but at what cost?
