It elongates the statement: “We would live among Jews, among brothers...”. This makes the reader think about it more. The ellipsis also shows that looking back on his experience, he changed his mind about it and it is showing how ignorant and naive he was.

The content reveals that people are happy about their new lives. “We would live among Jews, among brothers...” They won't receive anymore hostile faces or hate filled stares.

This reaction expresses how much Moishe’s attitude and emotions changed towards God. He wept and pleaded “Jews,listen to me! That’s all I ask of you. No money. No pity. Just listen to me!”. This influences the fact he wants them to understand and finally listen to him.

Structural
The way he uses adjectives to describe God. Textual structure:
Wiesel uses a colon after the statement. He used the colon to show that although their morale was rather good, things weren’t getting better but instead they were getting used to the situation.

Throughout this little dialogue the Jews must feel very anticlimactic or disappointed after expecting good news.

Wiesel uses multiple ellipses in this quote trying to try to add suspense to the story and to this dialogue in particular. His last sentence is also very short and making this sentence a short one emphasizes emotion.

When Elie heard his father pray he felt angry because God was doing nothing for them. Elie was starting to lose his faith because he felt like praying was wasting his time since he got nothing from his prayers. Wiesel suggests that Elie feels betrayed by God because he is making him and other people go through alot pain. Elie’s father is still very religious and any time the topic of faith is brought up it upsets Elie.

Structural choice
The author uses inner dialogue. When inner dialogue is used it makes the character’s words seem more important because it adds more emotion to the characters’ words. Elie’s loyalty to faith is unquestioned and this is an important moment of self reflection for him. Elie doesn’t know the answer to why he prays like you wouldn’t know the answer to living or breathing. Because the one thing in common with both of those is their essential to life. This shows how devoted Elie is to faith, so much that he considers it essential to life, like living and breathing.

Structural analysis
This quote is built up of a series of question marks representing Elie’s thought process. Wiesel’s reaction of not being able to move shows the change in his demeanor from the beginning of the story to this point. He says in the quote how he normally would have reacted in this situation, and it is clearly not how he reacted at this point in the story. 


Structural:
One structural choice that Wiesel uses is question marks. By utilizing question marks Wiesel creates self-reflecting questions. By questioning his change in character, it allows the reader to infer that his reaction to his father being hit was not normal for Elie. This highlights the theme of change because it reveals the change in character due to the events of the Holocaust.

In the middle of the night Wiesel’s father was called to an emergency meeting with the Jewish Counsel. All of Wiesel’s family and neighbors waited in anticipation to hear the urgent news.

Structural:
One prominent structural choice Wiesel uses is a long list of hopes and feelings to build up to the big news. The list is followed by short dialogue quotes which gives the effect of being hit with a hammer.

The content of the quote reveals that the Jews were trying to stay optimistic about the war. The author makes the other Jewish people in the town sound like they are in denial about Hitler, and they believe that a stronger army will bail them out.

The author uses quotes to show that the Jews directly say that a stronger army will save them.
