It also meant that sailors would not have to cross the Mediterranean or Arabia, considered to be very dangerous at the time. In 1492, he sailed from Europe to America. He and his sailors crossed the Atlantic Ocean, not knowing where they would land. It was a voyage into the unknown. Luckily they landed in what was knew as the new world (now known as The Americas)  after their "Europeans began to explore and settle in America.</div>]]></description>
