Davis talks about how education has a unique opportunity to observe members of the occupation at work, unlike a lot of other professions. "Educators beliefs exist on many levels form global to personal and serve as overarching frameworks for understanding and engaging the world." (Davis) As we read on it talks about how failing to examine our beliefs can have a negative impact on how we as educators precede in our teaching. We must examine them. I believe that this is 100% true and certain live experiences can lead us to have certain view points and we teach those view points without even knowing it.

As an educator is is very important that you create and develop relationships with all of your students. This is true for students of all race, religious background, how the students acts in and outside of the classroom, behavior problems and more. If you have a solid relationship built you can teach students; teach them to have their own passion for learning, teach them confidence in their learning and work, teach them that they have a support system cheering them on and so much more. If we allow our own personal biases and beliefs into our classroom then those relationships might not be developed fully and you end up not being able to teach a student properly. I think about "problem students" the most and how they are labeled and passed from one grade level to another. If we can build a relationship with a students we can get passed the "behavioral " label and learn that their are not bad kids, but kids stuck in bad situations who might need some extra help and love to succeed.

We as educators need to shift our beliefs and thoughts. We do this a lot naturally as educators but sometimes we have to do it very consciously as well. Teachers shift yearly based on each class, we alter our teaching based on what each class needs and we have to be able to shift and adapt on the fly based on assessments and how students are learning in the moment. We need to reflect often and make sure our beliefs are were they need to be, if not we need to shift and change that.

As educators we assess, check for understanding, do formal assessments, informal assessments, exits tickets and so much more to make sure our students are learning what we are teaching. But do we take the time to reflect on how we are teaching those things? Do we take the time to see if they appear to be working? To we seek feedback from peers, mentors and best yet our own students? If not, we need to. Through reflection comes growth and it will allow us to check in on our beliefs and make sure they are were they need to be. Reflection will "Check for understanding" from us, the teacher, as well.

We as teachers should also always be a student, constantly learning from anyone and any place. It doesn't have to be inside of a formal classroom just like our teaching doesn't constantly have to be inside a classroom.

Ali

As a school counselor, I've been reflecting on an article that highlights the profound impact of educators' beliefs on academic content, student relationships, and the educators themselves. The article begins by explaining that teachers' beliefs are often formed without evidence, yet they become a fundamental part of their identities. These beliefs tend to go unexamined because they are implicit, unarticulated, or unconscious. It's important to recognize that many educators choose this profession either accidentally or very intentionally, with their past experiences and emotions heavily influencing their choices and direction.

These motivations are noble, but they also bring into focus the importance of self-awareness and reflection in teaching.

Ali

Educators' beliefs significantly impact the content they teach, their relationships with students, and their own sense of competence and authority. When teachers' reflections and interpretations of situations conflict with those of their students, it often stems from these personal beliefs and a lack of connection. This disconnect can lead to misinterpretations and hinder classroom success. However, when teachers adopt a reflective and compassionate approach, striving to understand their students' actual motives and values, a better balance and experience for both parties are achieved.
