         <description><![CDATA[<div>This was a law formed by the Tokugowa Shogunate in 1825 to repel all foreign vessels from Japans waters the law was later repealed in 1842.&nbsp;<br><br>This was a setback for Japan by making themselves more secluded which only hurt them but repealing it was in fact a step forward. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>"The Convention of Kanagawa" or "The Kanagawa Treaty" was a treaty between the United States and Japan signed on March 31st 1854. The Tokugowa Shogunate signed this treaty under the threat of force by the United States, this in turn proved beneficial by helping in the establishment of treaties with other western powers.<br><br>This was a major step forward for Japan making themselves open for trading, and increasing relations with other countries. This helped them by having strong allies and access to other and newer technology's.</div>]]></description>

         <title>1904-1905 Russo-Japanese War</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Japan and Russia fought over rivaling imperial ambitions and some major war areas are as follows Liadong Peninsula, Mukden the seas around Korea and Japan and the Yellow Sea.<br>Russia sought a warm water port on the Pacific ocean for navy and maritime trade. Japan was on top of Russia throughout the war wining every battle Russia was outmatched, but would not concede to preserve dignity and not be humiliated. The war eventually ended with the treaty of Portsmouth delegated by President Roosevelt.<br><br>This showed the world Japan was no pushover and despite everyone thinking Russia would win they lost, this boosted Japans standing in the world.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
