Do not assume taking a class online means your classroom is anywhere and everywhere. Time can slip away easily with distractions. Especially if you have the Canvas app on your phone.

There is something about having a physical paper of all the work I have to complete than just keeping it online. I like to place it on the first page of my binder and it reminds me of upcoming deadlines.

This is my second time taking an online class and let me tell you it's not easier than a traditional class. It's easy to fall behind if you dont manage your time wisely so I suggest getting yourself a planner. Organize your study times and make a list of what you need to do everyday and reward yourself for completing everything. It's also a smart idea to download the Canvas app in your phone (it saved me from missing deadlines a bunch of times).

A lot of times online classes can glitch out, and if you wait to turn in an assignment right before the due date, a lot can go wrong resulting in you failing an assignment.

I've taken several online classes now and the best thing to do is to really organize yourself. Get a planner, print the syllabus/handouts and highlight everything you think its important. Use programs such as Onenote or Evernote and make your own notes like a regular class, it will be easier to study for quizzes. Download the app on your phone and turn on the notifications for reminders.

But as confident as I am, I expect this class just to be like any other class. As long as everything is managed accordingly and written in a planner, everything should be a breeze. As a part time student and balancing work full time, online classes are definitely beneficial for those busy and cant attend campus. Succeeding in this class for me means, time management, taking advantage of office hours, and also using our resources (each other).

This is key. I would also suggest doing the assignments during the daytime, in between classes, or before work. I found I was more content/productive knowing that I had all the assignments done for the week. It is also very important to have a quiet work space. It is very easy to get distracted while doing online work.

I have been taking some online classes for the last three semesters and one thing that I've learned is that I should still write down all my schedules and assignments like quizzes and tests and readings on my planner. Before I always rely on my phone to check my stuff, but technical issues happen so its better to have everything written down as well. I also tend to take screenshots on my phone when I look up something, but I don't have time to read it on the spot. I just save the screenshot and then when I am free I read the portion I want to read or I look up my schedule through there.

I have only taken one hybrid course this past semester. If there is anything I’ve learned from it, it’s that one must be self disciplined, as well as motivated. Some things that I do to ensure that I’m successful is that I have created a designated space, which I call my “sacred place” and is essentially my own study area/ office. I also have more than one calander/ agenda that I write everything in and I color quad donate my classes as I have 6 this semester. And always ask questions for clarification, better understanding or if you’re just unsure about anything. I’d also recommend tutoring and allotted study times each week. I also can’t stress enough to set aside time for self-care (this can belistening to music, playing a sport, getting a massage etc.) It’s important to have time for yourself and destress.

I have taken online classes before. I am 43 and back in school. The last time I took a online course was in 2001 or 02. it was actual two online courses. Long store short I had a bad experience. I was in the military , overseas in Thailand and the wifi was terrible. My laptop worked fine however I didn't have the right software on it to do what i needed. So fast forward to 2018. I'm back in school and a-lot of things have improved. But, the same things still exist you need good wifi and a good computer with the right software. This is still a class but the key take away is that it is A online class. Its nice that we have are smart phones and tablets. But, nothing will beat the laptop or desktop when it comes to taking a online class. Last do what works for you but don't put off what can be done today unless you have kids. Good luck!

My advice for newbies is to ALWAYS stay on top when it comes to online classes because one can get behind so quickly. It is not hard unless you make it hard. Just because it is an online does not mean there’s any work involved. You have to actually put in more work then going to an actual class. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE! Get everything done on time! In the beginning it may feel a little harder just because one is not used to it, but be sure to check canvas and assignments everyday. Always check emails from the professor, and always read the chapter prior to the assignment. As long as you keep up with the assignments due and read and study you will be fine. Good luck and if any student new to online classes needs help you can reach me at my school email: aq1019734@swccd.edu or my other email: ariannaquinonez98@gmail.com :)

This is my second online class and my advice for anyone new to online classes to to keep a planner on hand! Go on the calendar on canvas and write down all the quizzes, tests, and assignments due. Schedule a certain time out of your day solely for studying for the online class. It's very easy to fall behind because you're not physically going to class and you don't have a professor physically telling you what's due. Another tip is to turn on your notifications on Canvas. This is where your professor communicates to you and the notifications can act as a reminder to do your work. Overall, you can be successful in online classes if you manage your time well and keep up with assignments. Good luck everyone!

I would definitely recommend some type of weekly planner. Whether it be your tasks app, a notebook planner, or a desk planner - just write out all your homework so you visualize and prioritize everything that you have to do. I always overestimate myself by thinking that I can remember all my assignments, but that is never the case!! I also recommend to download the Canvas app and turn on the notifications. It's a lifesaver. Trust.

This is my first online class, however most of the classes I’ve taken have needed participation through canvas so I am familiar with the workings of discussion boards and reviewing modules. What I didn’t expect is how crucial it is to be checking for assignment updates and have notes of what’s due as we won’t have the face-to-face reminder. I chose an online class because it tends to be a little difficult for me to attend school since I have to cross the border and this class wasn’t available on the days I’m already scheduled to physically be present in class.

I have learned that online classed fit my schedule better and surprisingly it is easier for me to learn. From previous experience with online courses, I would say stay organized and manage your time wisely. Time management is everything throughout college , especially for online classes. It could become easy to forget because you are not going to campus, instead everything is online. It is important that you set aside time for each class. If needed spend extra time on the classes you are having difficulties with. I recommend that you check your email and canvas daily. Also, writing out important due dates, and assignments on a calendar or whiteboard is a great help with staying organized. Good Luck!

Hello Classmates,
I would love share my wisdom and advice of online courses! As being familiar now with canvas along with online courses I can conclude that communication with the professor is a key element to succeeding in an online course. When I took my first online class (last year), I was overwhelmed and absolutely hated online courses because of the lack of communication. However, I come to terms of the beauty of online courses by always staying on top of my assignments and communicating with my professor to make sure we are always on the same page. Whether, it is an email or to schedule a conference there are many sources to utilize. I recommend to check your canvas app. or even better on the computer to make sure you are not missing anything or caught off guard about an assignment. Completing this task daily will keep yourself in the game and aware of where you stand in the course! From experience, I learned the more you stay on top of assignments, quizzes, exams, etc. The more you will exceed!

Kassandra Castillo. So this is actually my second semester taking online classes. Taking online classes works for me because I can take my laptop anywhere and finish my work on time especially since I do have two jobs. This does not mean I do less work or that classes don't get hard because they do but it is very useful to meet with your teacher during office hours if you have questions. Also, it really helps if you have tutoring or if you just meet up with people from the same class to do the homework or study. The calendar is your friend it really helps to keep you updated and see whats due. Ask questions maybe someone else has the same question. No question is a dumb question!

Download the canvas app on your phone and check that every.single.day!! If you choose your professor through rate my professor and assume the course will be easy, well get rid of that expectation. It might be easy, but if you simply forget to do some little assignment, reading, or quiz, you can mess yourself up for almost the rest of the semester. Mainly just remember to make time for the class because even though its not in person on campus, it should still be prioritized and spent as much time sometimes even more time than your regular classes.

Online courses is the way to go. I've always preferred to take online courses rather than on campus because I find it to be more organized. For anyone who is new to online courses, I'd advice for you to stay on track with whatever needs to be done that week. It can get a bit overwhelming once you see everything in front of you, but don't let that discourage you. Take it one step at a time and you'll see that it's not so bad. However, just because it's online, doesn't mean that the class will be easier. As long as you are constantly checking about when an assignment is due and actually do it, you should be fine. Personally, I like to get my assignments done about 3 days ahead if possible to have the rest of the week free. That's definitely one of the perks of taking an online course. Good luck to you all. I know you can do it!

Ive attended SWC for a few years now and I was always very scared to take online courses mostly because I always liked the comfort of physically seeing the professor in person until last semester that I was forced to take an online course because of work. I really enjoyed it. Its not any easier than actually physically being in class but it does give you the advantage of turning in assignments at any time of day. Some advice I would give is to buy a planner and organize your due dates on the planner. It gets tough to remember every due date but the planner helps so much. Good luck

This isn't my first online class so I'm not too scared because for the most part I know whats expected and what I need to do to succeed. My advice to those who haven't taken online classes before would be to stay on top of due dates. Being in an online setting it can be really easy to forget about assignment or test dates so I would suggest getting a planner or calendar and setting reminders on your phone especially for assignments that are a couple weeks away. I also highly highly recommend checking canvas EVERYDAY. Even if you think you're on top of it and even if you think you already turned in all your work just go on anyway and double check because like i said its really easy to forget assignments and due dates.

Online courses always intimidated me, and as the first one I've ever taken, I'm both a little nervous as well as excited for this new experience. A lot of people I know have taken online classes before and I always hear an interesting mix of things that have come to shape my perception of them. But now that I am taking one for myself, I'll finally be able to develop my own perspective on online classes myself. I chose to take this online class because it's very convenient for me, and allows me to maximize my time more progressively as a new psychology major. I'm expecting it to still be a lot of effort on my part, and definitely a lot of time management being applied. I'm really hoping to succeed in this class, not only because it's my first online learning experience, but because physiological psychology will really help me on my path as a psychology major.

Being a student at Southwestern college for the last couple of years has essentially trained me to know that being in class is more beneficial when it comes to learning. This is one of my first classes I will be taking online and I wont lie, that it makes me a bit nervous to think how I will make it through the semester without having the professor present along with classmates in person to better assist with any concerns, questions, and perhaps doubts that I might have. I did end up choosing and online class so that i could have a more flexible schedule since i am currently managing working two jobs and going to school. I do expect to be successful in this course, along with gaining the necessary knowledge to proceed with my career.

My name is Farida Olson and this is not my first time taking an online class. I personally love taking online classes because my current busy schedule limits me from attending classes on campus. My learning style is a combination of active and reflecting on my work. I believe that if people know their learning style, it’ll help a lot in the future when it comes to doing work like reports, studies, and so on. When it comes to online classes, I HIGHLY suggest to have some sort of reminders of anything that can remind you when things are due. I’ve had times when I’ve missed assignments because I simply forgot. Even with reminders, I also suggest to check canvas everyday! I got the canvas app which makes thing way easier for me and I’m always on top of my things. Good luck to everyone!

Personally, I enjoy taking online classes because it helps me balance my schedule, along with my job and the tasks I do daily. Online classes also help me challenge my organizational skills but also the "learning at my own risk" part which means I have to motivate myself and push myself more. I was a bit skeptical of online classes at first, but after a while, I felt pretty comfortable and found them to be enjoyable. It is convenient, but I do recommend calendarizing and staying up to date on everything that is due, because deadlines come quick and these type of classes require more from ourselves.

I've taken only one online class before, but this semester, all I am taking is online classes. It's easy to get distracted, so my biggest tip would be to write things down. I use a Passion Planner and it has honestly been a life saver. However, if I were to give some advice, it would be to not be to hard on yourself. We forget, we make mistakes, and that's okay. I used to beat myself up a lot if I didn't do well, but all that did was make me feel miserable. If you make a mistake in this class, it's okay. Encourage yourself to keep on going. Believe in yourself and hopefully you'll get through this class! Good luck!

Now that the semester has come to a close, an advice I would give that many of you can relate to is never skip any assignments. The grade calculator is a great feature on canvas but something that can backfire is if the teacher has not fully put everything in the assignment section and you miscalculate since it is not included. Also, don't wait until the end of the semester to frantically contact the professor about an assignment you missed/did not do to try to fix you grade. Adding stress on to yourself is not worth it. Something about online classes that would be more helpful in the future is contacting your classmates online and meeting up in person to work on class assignments together. I met a student through this course and being able to talk to someone for help makes the course much much easier because you're not alone!

I was hesitant to take this class online because I had already taken physiological psychology on campus but unfortunately the professor’s teaching methods were not the best so I withdrew from the class. This course will require to do a lot of reading and studying so I’m already preparing myself for it. Good luck everyone !!
