Ocean Alley

An Australian Alternative Psychedelic Rock Band formed in Sydney, 2011 and have become well known for their "infectious melody lines and memorable blend in psychedelic-surf-rock" (Ocean Alley n.d.). My music is inspired by the way all the instruments merge together seamlessly to make it sound so simple and their distinguishable blend of hard rock with relaxed alternative indie music.

Led Zeppelin

One of Ocean Alleys earlier influences, the famous English rock band formed in London 1968, Led Zeppelin, is notoriously known for their classic rock hits. Ocean Alley's "In Purple" EP was inspired and influenced by Zeppelins loud rock sounds and powerful performances. The complicated drums and the distorted guitar can be easily distinguishable to some of Led Zeppelins work.

Pink Floyd

One of Englands first psychedelic rock bands, Pink Floyd has influenced many artists and bands for years to come. Most famous for their hit album, "Dark Side of the Moon" with atmospheric soundscapes and thought provoking lyrics, Ocean Alley have been heavily inspired by them. Ocean Alley even covered Pink Floyd in a three-song-medley for their Triple J Like a Version.

Tame Impala

The Australian psychedelic music project, Tame Impala, is the work of multi-instrumentalist Kevin Parker. Ocean Alley's instrumental work is influenced by Tame Impalas psychedelic synth sounds and his ability to create atmospheric and dreamy music. Ocean Alley replicate Impalas synth sounds with wavy guitar sounds overlapping each other.

Steve Lacy

An Alternative R&B artist by the name of Steve Lacy creates weird and whacky songs that are catchy and experimental that hold a special place in my heart. I aspire to how Lacy approaches creating music, "I like to mix different approaches together. It happens naturally. I’m never doing it all purposely. It’s just inside of me.” (Hiphopdx 2022). I try to be experimental with my music and just let the ideas come to me rather than forcing it.

Paramore

The American Alternative Rock band Paramore and the lead singer, Hayley Williams, is noted to be one of Steve Lacys greatest influences, stating that "Hayley’s voice and melodies are crazy because she takes the rock thing and makes it soulful" (Hiphopdx 2022). Most of Lacy's songs have a rocky beat, with a soulful melody line over the top.

Weezer

Weezer is an American Alternative Rock Band formed in 1992, renowned for their loud, powerful, metal like sound, and catchy, smart, and nerdy lyrics. They were quite unique, for example their song Undone had a weird guitar part with chords that shouldn't work well together but they made it work. Steve Lacy took inspiration from the band but especially this song, stating, “The dissonance of the chord progression of ‘Undone’ is truly just weird. For something like that to exist was super important for me in my musical journey, to be, like: ‘Oh, wow, you can make this sound fun and dope.” (Hiphopdox 2022)

Jimi Hendrix

An American guitarist and singer-songwriter, Jimi Hendrix has been one of the most influential artists ever, as example of Steve Lacy. Steve Lacy's difficult guitar chords have come from some of Jimi's work, as well as Jimmy's way of singing melodies. Steve even stated, "I’ll take certain melodic approaches from Prince, but I’ll play it as if someone else was mimicking Prince, like if Jimi Hendrix tried to be Prince” (Hiphopdx 2022)
