For example in the Missouri Compromise of 1820 revealed sectional divisions over the extensions of slavery. It temporally preserved a balance between slave and free states but it caused conflicts with the feelings of the people that did not support the unity that the era portrayed. Another example that shows this is the continuous issues of the BUS. It showed the intense political and economical disagreements of the time, reflecting deep divides rather than a good feeling. In conclusion, the Era of good feelings failed to capture what it was aiming to be, as it was characterized by conflicts and divisions externally and internally, which had lasting implications for American history.
