Activity 1
For the text A, the author used the tone for disliking cats because he is clearly saying that the cat is a stupid animal because cats are not capable of learning while dogs are obedient and docile.
Meanwhile, for the text B, the author’s favourite animal is cats because there is some sentence that indicates that the author loves cats such as "The cat, however, is clean. She never leaves the house or the lawn, and she constantly showers, thus keeping her coat glossy and beautiful."

Activity 2

Activity 1

A. Rude, straightforward, and certainly subjective.
The author uses straightforward and rude remarks to differentiate the cat and the dog. They shower the dog with praises and give nothing but insults to the cat. The statements mentioned are clearly showing favoritism and biased.

B. Neutral and more comprehensive.
The author uses a more subtle choice of words to show their favoritism. While even though it's clear that the author was biased toward the cat, they not only gave praises for the cat and insults for the dog. They give both dog and cat good words, while at the same time trying to show their bias by how they describe each animal. They show the positive aspect of dogs, while still projecting that those things are not special at all. On the other hand, for the cats, they explain how the thing that people see as negative aspect as something that actually a good aspect. The tones also seem to contain more cynical expressions.

Activity 2

1. O (Objective) - The author explain the situation without indulging their own feeling. They give more neutral explanations that are supported with various proofs.

2. S (Subjective) - The statements contain emotionally-driven opinions which expose the feelings of most parents: such as, "It becomes harder and harder to meet our neighbors."; "They too need the guidance and friendship available in a peer group." The writings contain biased opinions and strongly support the subject.

3. O (Objective) - The statements are written with no emotion and are describing something that actually happen and can be considered a fact. Although it still contains opinions; it does not appear because the writer is opposing or supporting the subject. Therefore, it can be categorized as objective.

4. S (Subjective) - the writer certainly include their personal feeling toward the president. This can be found that the sentences: "A huge bear of a man, Taft did not inspire confidence; even his own mother did not support his candidacy." From this sentence alone, you could see that the writer is certainly opposing the subject.
