Art Adventure: Ice Painting

Paint and ice made a wonderful combination to discover a lot of things! We discovered that the ice was cold and watched it melt on our hands. We also noticed how the colors changed when we mixed it with other colors.

We explored glue by making our self portrait. We used some loose parts to create our faces. Some materials did not stick that well so we had to put more glue. It felt stickier as we added more glue. Very interesting discovery!

Buttons In and Out!

To help us with our eye-hand coordination and exercise our small muscles, we were given a tray of assorted buttons and empty containers. We put the buttons inside by pushing them down the lid of the container. Some buttons went down easily and some buttons needed a little push with our fingers, this also helped us with our problem-solving skills.

We were given a tray of different objects with different textures like hard, soft, smooth, rough, and bumpy. We sorted these objects by putting the same textures into different empty containers. We noticed that some objects did not make a sound when we shook the bottles and some bottles made loud sounds.

For art today, we used our strong hands to make dots on a clean sheet of paper. We pounded as strong as we can to make colorful marks. Sometimes, the dots did not appear and we discovered that we need to pound harder to be able to see the dots.

Coffee Grounds Sensory Bin

We did a different sorting activity today. We used the tongs to sort the toys by their texture. We also noticed the bins were labeled and our teachers help us sound out the letters so we can put it in the correct bin.

Cloud Dough Sensory Bin

We were given a bin of cloud dough and there were small objects hidden underneath the dough. We felt how soft the dough is and compared it to snow but not cold. We were able to find the hidden objects easily because of its hard texture.

We culminated our week by making some mashed potatoes. We wanted to investigate the transformation of a hard potato into a soft, mushy one. Another fun thing we can do to get better at using our hands and eyes together is playing with the plunker can. We can use our fingers and hands to put the marker covers into the can. We can also use our thinking skills to figure out how to make the covers fit into the lid of the can.

We were learning about how things can change from being wet to being dry. To help us understand, we did an activity with paper. First, we tore the paper into small pieces, which helped us exercise our small muscles. Then, we put the paper pieces into water and watched what happened. Walking Water Experiment

For our experiment today, we observed how the tissue paper absorbed the colored water. At first, we did not see any changes but after awhile, we saw how the color went up to the tissue paper and changed the color of the tissue paper.

Halo-Halo Making

Maghalo-halo tayo! Halo-Halo is a Filipino dessert where you mix various kinds of ingredients. In class, we were given sago, gulaman and milk to mix the ingredients. The best part is when we got to taste what we made! It was delicious!

For this week, we will investigate on textures that are wet and dry. We will also observe changes that happen when we mix wet and dry ingredients.

We are also engaged in activities that require transferring. We were given an a tray full of pompoms, egg carton and some tweezers. We used the tweezers to move the pompoms to the egg carton. This activity did not only help us with our coordination and motor skills, but we also practiced our problem-solving skills by figuring out how to use the tweezers.

Blocks and Lines

Another week, another reaction that we observed today. We were give a bin of baking soda and some colored vinegar. We used the medicine dropper to mix the vinegar into the baking soda. It was amazing on how both ingredients reacted to each other. Some of us enjoyed touching the mixture using our hands.

Citrus Fizz Experiment

We performed another fizzing experiment today using oranges, baking soda and vinegar. We first observed if we obtained the same result if we don't put vinegar. We observed small bubbles and not so much fizzing sound but when vinegar was added, we saw how the bubbles changed in size and the fizzing sound became louder.

Colored Pasta Transfer

For our sensory play, we were given some colored pasta and empty bottles. We played with it differently, some of us made shakers by putting the noodles inside the containers and started to shake it. Art Adventure: Marble Painting

For art adventure, we did Marble Painting! We were given a clean sheet of paper, marbles, and paints to create our masterpiece. First, we put some paint on our paper, then placed the marble in the bin, and here comes the fun part! We moved the bin from left to right, up and down to make the marbles roll. We found out that in this way, the marbles create straight lines or paths depending on which way we move the bin. It was a fun experience!

During Exploration Time, we were given a bunch of soft blocks. We let our imagination think of what can we do with it. We used it for building towers, houses, stairs, mini chairs, and even a bed! We also built bridges which made us try to walk on it from one end to another. This activity helped us to develop our gross motor skills and made us work together with our peers. It was fun!

Playdough + Leaves

As part of our exploration into making playdough, we did a little experiment on what would happen if we added leaves to it. We pounded it, squeezed it, and rolled it, but we discovered that leaves wouldn't totally mix with the playdough, it actually made it prettier and more colorful! Ring.. Ring... we were so amazed when our teacher made the phone ring inside the classroom. We would all run to the Dramatic Area and lift the phone up. Some of us called our parents, some of us called the doctor and some of us asked for help from a policeman. We are excited about how the investigation will lead us.

The children have been interested with the telephone, how it is used, who to call and what we can say when we use the phone. This week, we would like investigate more about the telephone and find out the ideas of the children about it.

Since we are into sticky things activities, we were given a foam bracelet and some paper. First, we tear the papers into small pieces then we stuck the leaves into the foam bracelet using some tape. It was amazing on how we were able to make different patterns using the colored papers.

Fun under the Sun!

Outdoor fun! When we went outside and saw the set-up, we were all so excited to to play with the materials! We saw some oobleck and wooden blocks of different sizes. We tried to put the blocks together by adding some oobleck. We noticed that the blocks were still falling off. What can we use to make the blocks stand longer? We are excited to the coming week to know more!

This week, the children focused on activities that can connect a variety of objects. We were given materials that can put things together like glue, strings, tape etc. After each activity, we test and observe the outcomes so we know which material is more efficient in putting things together.

We did an experiment using the 3 different kinds of glue; liquid glue, glue stick, and the homemade glue we made. We compared which glue is the stickiest and that will hold the pieces of paper we stuck on. Here are our observations:

We made homemade glue today and it was a different kind of experience! We first mixed the ingredients in a bowl then we used heat to see the changes. At first, it looked like colored water but when we put it on the stove, it started to clump up and began to look like glue. Aside from our sticky snowman, we also made our own snowman by filling up the empty bottles with cotton balls. This was a great activity because we practiced our problem solving skills by finding ways to empty out the bottles. Some of us kept shaking the bottle until all cotton balls fell on the mat, some of us scooped it out using the pretend spoon and some of us used our fingers.

Another Christmas decoration that we did is our very own snowflakes! By using contact paper and a snowflake template, we stuck some white cotton balls on it. After sticking them, we tried to put the contact paper upside down to see how many cotton balls fell.

One game we played during our Christmas Party was pin the nose of the snowman. We had to close our eyes or put a blindfold and try to pin the nose of the snowman. Pinning the nose of the snowman was a thrill especially when we heard our friends cheering for us!

As we continued to explore eggs, we did an egg drop experiment which is a classic STEM activity where we built a house to protect a raw egg from breaking.

What we did is we used different materials like newspapers, sponges, and fillers to create a protective structure around "Poppy's cousins". After that, we tried dropping it from a high place and tried dropping it really fast too. Some of the eggs survived but one didn't make it. We felt sad seeing the egg cracked and broken but we learned that next time we have to make sure that it is secured. This activity helped us understand how important it is to be gentle with the things we play with and the friends we interact with. It also helped us with our problem-solving skills as we created the house for the egg.

For this week's art, we did a Duplo stamping activity. To begin, we gathered a variety of Duplo blocks in different shapes and sizes. One of our sensory bin for the week is Kinetic Sand. With this kind of sand, we were able to mold it into different shapes and sizes. We also added various tools and toys, such as shovels, scoops, molds, and small toys like animals. We were able to explore the sand through scooping, pouring, and molding the sand which developed our fine motor skills and creativity.

In this activity, we were able to show our creativity skills and imagination in terms of designing our family's clothes! We used crayons of different forms, and colored pencils too. We filled the white spaces with the favorite colors of our family members. We also played with these puppets after coloring and did a little storytelling with our friends. After that, we laminated this puppet, and is now ready to hang on our DIY Roof!

What can we do with this sensory bin filled with fillers and hidden objects? Well, we did a scavenger hunt! This activity is very interactive as we look for items hidden in the sensory bin and identify them. We found some chairs, tables, lampshades, and even a bed! We also tried to identify and remember which part of the house we see these items. It was fun to recall and share stories of what we do with these items at our house.

Art Adventure: Foil Printing

Today, we did a foil printing art wherein we placed a foil on the table and let ourselves scribble on it using different colored markers. We made sure the foil was filled with colorful lines and scribbles, after that, we sprayed some water to mix the colors of the markers and then placed a paper on top to transfer the design. As we carefully lifted it we saw the colors and lines on our paper, it was unique and amazing!

A House that we can Hang

For art, we made a roof for our house out of cardboard and a hanger. We painted the cardboard using a roller with different designs. We dipped our chosen roller paint into the paint and evenly rolled it to the cardboard to fill in our roof. After that, we let it dry and placed it on the side as we finished preparing the photos of our family to finally hang it on the hanger. We had so much fun completing this masterpiece!

Today, we had a blast with our Three Little Pigs House Building activity! Inspired by the classic tale, we embarked on a creative journey to construct houses using various materials. We used fillers in place of straws, popsicle sticks for sticks, and colored papers to represent the bricks. It was amazing that some of our friends used all the materials to build their house, thinking that it would be stronger. Through this experience, we were able to learn about construction and building.

Yes, it does seem familiar! This time, we decided to experiment with a larger object, reminiscent of our previous Marble Painting activity. Instead of marbles, we used Ping Pong balls, along with a box, our selected paint colors, and a sheet of paper. Our process involved dropping paint onto the paper inside the box, adding the Ping Pong balls, and tilting the box sideways. We watched as the balls rolled, bounced, and created colorful patterns on the paper. It was delightful to observe the vibrant paths they left behind!

Let's make a Cement!

Today, as we focused on the materials and tools needed to build a structure, we explored cement. We discovered that cement serves as a glue for bricks and/or rocks when constructing a house.

To make our DIY cement, we needed flour, cornstarch, black food coloring, and water. First, we mixed flour and cornstarch, then slowly added water until it dissolved, making sure it wasn't too watery. We added a drop of black food coloring and mixed it well to make it gray. Once done, we placed it in a mold, added some pebbles, and let it dry.

It was a fun experience making our cement from scratch!
