Many accused also confessed to being a witch because that was the only allowed option in order to live. When the doctor claimed that there was something wrong spiritually with their body, the girls started putting the blame onto other women for being witches. After this incident, hundreds have trials were held for similar accusations. Nineteen men and women were actually hung through being convicted of witchcraft. Queen Elizabeth and King Charles II were ruling England during this time period. But the puritans thought of the Catholic Church as too impure and wanted to return to the simplicity of the religion. When Queen Elizabeth died, King Charles II dissolved the parliament and any connection between the church and state.
