The story is about Molly who is in kindergarten and after she draws a picture at school of her two moms she is faced with a classmate telling her she can’t have two moms She isn't sure she wants her picture to be on the wall for Open School Night. Molly’s classmate that was sure two moms was simply impossible wasn’t told that he was wrong instead the teacher discussed how different every family was and how Molly’s was just as much a family has his or any other.

Discussion Questions/ Activity:

Students draw pictures of their family and display them around the room.
Students discuss the similarities and differences between the families.

The queen is old and cranky and wants her son to take over the kingdom, but he must be married to do so. He tells her he’s not really into princesses, but Mama doesn’t take the hint. After finding fault with every princess presented to him, he falls in love at first sight with a prince and they live happily ever after.
This book uses the familiar fairytale structure to make an important statement.

Discussion Question/ Activity

Students will look into what elements make a fairy tale. Students will work together to create a Glogster to define the word equality. They will use images, music, and text to define their definition.

Students will discuss how civil rights and how not allowing same sex marriage in some states goes against civil rights. 

Students chose a civil right ( freedom of speech, freedom of the press, right to privacy, voting, freedom of religion) and explain why that it important to them.

This book explores the life of a child whose parents just got divorced. Soon after the divorce daddy there is  "someone new at Daddy's house." The new arrival is male. This new concept is explained to the child as "just one more kind of love."
They portray the home life like a normal one; they do normal chores, and have the occasional argument. What is the biggest things that symbolizes they are a normal house is how they raise their kid.

Discussion Questions:

Students will be asked to identify the word "normal".

What qualities makes a parent?
Did these two dad's make good parents?

Do you think children at school will make fun of him for having two dads?
Why?

 This text explores a tough situation for a little girl. Stella's class is having a Mother's Day celebration, but what's a girl with two daddies to do? It's not that she doesn't have someone who helps her with her homework, or tucks her in at night. Stella has her Papa and Daddy who take care of her, and a whole gaggle of other loved ones who make her feel special and supported every day. She just doesn't have a mom to invite to the party.The students ask her who packs her lunch?, or who tucks her in at night? or who helps her when she she's sad? When Stella lists the many family members who help her, her friends see an easy solution to the party conundrum: bring them all. Daddy and Papa agree that it's a great idea, but Stella still has misgivings.

Discussion Question:
Students will create a list of family members who help them. 

While reading students will come up with a solution for Stella or explain what they would do if they were in that situation.
