Demonstration 1: Prepare for Anaesthetic and the procedure
(this must be done in clinic - can be done in workplace assessment or you can video). 
  • Prepare equipment for induction (iv, tubes, drugs etc)
  • Setup theatre - lights, heat, positioning equipment, monitoring devices etc
  • Prepare required PPE - gowns, gloves mask etc

Demonstration 3: Handle and restrain patient for pre-op
  • Handling/restrain animal for prep check/perform and record the prep check. (see skills for things to be recorded)
  • 3.3 - calculate drug dosages - at TAFE assessment
  • Give or assist with premed and induction

Demonstration 4:  Induce anaesthesia
  • Assist in induction/entubation/positioning/connecting to circuit/stabilise/chart vitals and reflexes. 
  • Stablising the patient - ensuring animal is okay for surgery to commence

  • Selecting correct circuit for patient
  • Connect all parts correctly
  • Perform a leak test 

Demo 7: Techniques in an anaesthetic emergency 
  • Undertake CPR in a medium sized dog- place ET tube/demo IPPV/Demo external compressions
  • Manage haemorrhage - bandage and apply pressure to stabilised haemorrhage from leg/abdomen cat/dog.

Demonstration 5:  Monitor the anaesthetic
  • Monitor the GA - charting every 5 mins/chart to be signed off by supervisor
  • Assess depth and modify as needed as directed by vet- for at least 30 mins. See skills assessment for standard required. 

Demonstration 6:  Monitor post operatively
  • Recover the patient from GA- position/extubate/continue to monitor until patient recumbent
  • Administer analgesia and record post op period- document any pain relief and assess pain score value in initial post operative period.

You need to submit:
Photo or video of
  • anaesthetic machine
  • the 3x selected ET tubes
  • the patient
  • the theatre set up before and during
  • all drugs used 
  • restraint of the patient for induction - ie you holding the animal. 
    • A COPY OF THE COMPLETED RECORD -link to document is in the project. 
Then you need to submit the completed questions that are attached to the project document. There are 3 sections all with a number of questions.
