This stage parts from birth to aproximately two years of age. In this period of time, children learn through their senses and motor actions while they start interacting with the environment. Infants and young children experience the world and gain knowledge through their senses and motor movements. Through trial and error, children discover more about the world around them.

Example: At this stage children start to crawl.

This stage goes from age 2 to 7. They begin to think symbolically and use pictures and words to explain objects.

Example: They start to recognize phonemes and its written symbols.

Children begin to use language and symbolic thinking.

• Concrete Operational Stage 7-11

  • Children develop logical thinking but are limited to concrete concepts. They understand conservation .

• Formal Operational Stage (12 and up):

  • Adolescents develop abstract reasoning and hypothetical thinking.
