The Karo tribe from Ethiopia, is made up of 1,000 people. Within this tribe, the women hold some wild beauty traditions that are very different than what we are used to in North America. For instances, women go through a process called “scarification” at a young age. This process is meant to attract their potential husband and after the last scars are cut the young women can marry her husband and have children.
Other beauty techniques used in the Karo tribe are chalk painting instead of our conventional use of mascaras and foundation, chalk is used to enhance the bodies of the Karo members, both men and women use this technique. Additionally, the Karo women will paint their hair with ocher and have small curl style.
Another beauty standard of the Karo tribe is women do not normally wear shirts, this is way different from the norm in North America as women are normally shammed for not wearing a shirt. As well, this tribes beauty standards are far different from the standards in North America, it is crazy to see how beauty is revealed in different cultures and countries across the world.
