STEM research class; freshman start in physics, geometry, algebra 2, science have integrated math.
"Underrepresented" it's a very diverse school.
Good community of support, teachers want to help their students.
"Flexible" counselors helps with schedules for AVC and SOAR and allow breaks between classes.
SOAR covers cost for community college classes and textbooks. Teachers available to get materials to help students to succeed.
Parent: I do love the emphasis on the ECHS initiative. That was a huge factor for me when wanting my daughter to apply to SOAR.

We have an amazing STEM program yet through the statement “emphasis in mathematics, science, and engineering,” soar begins to seem like a STEM school. However, a majority of students are interested in outer fields such as law, art, etc. The statement should mention that SOAR is here to support any future goals, which can then highlight the emphasis on STEM.

The phrase "by compressing the number of years to complete a college degree" is unclear. SOAR is about gaining college experience and some view this statement as a requirement for obtaining an AA degree. Others see it as misleading because some college don't take those units (Harvard for instance) so you're not really ahead.

As a senior "I haven't taken one class in engineering; I've taken anatomy, biology, and chemistry."
"When we go over classes for college, they talk about IGETC classes not engineering or other STEM; we get pushed more towards the AA and don't branch out to other interests."
STEM Research is not open to everyone since the class fills up to quickly.
For flexibility the IGETC certification is the push, but students should be allowed to branch out as well.

Goal-oriented! Many of our teachers encourage us to set meaningful goals and students are very driven to achieve them. The SOAR culture motivates students to perform at their best and challenges us in a way that allows us to grow immensely. The variety of opportunities outside of STEM should be mentioned as well. because going into SOAR I was not aware of the numerous classes or programs, involving law or music for example, that were available to us.

No mention of AVID and college preparation. Heavy college prep even thought taking college classes.
AVID for people who need those skills for success but many SOAR students who get accepted already have those skills. This is redundant.
