 According to the text it says Pretty soon though ma'am they are going to let women vote. Mrs Merganser shook her head in disbelief. You think they are going to let us vote? Even if they do pass this amendment and let white women vote, you think they are going to let colored women vote?  Also the text says You do not know much child. I've  just been telling you how I have been sold and willed and bartered about like so much livestock and you've got in your head that they are going to let me vote? This shows me that Mrs Merganser thinks that  what happened in the past is going to never stop.
